It's one of the most famous ballets in the repertory, seen in a new and mesmerizing way. Filmed at the historic Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, this HD broadcast of Giselle gives everyone a 'best seat in the house' experience.

Giselle can be seen at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, October 8.

This beautiful production stars Natalia Osipova as Giselle and Leonid Sarafanov as Count Albert. Telling the story of a simple village girl who falls deeply in love with a dashing prince disguised as a peasant, the idyllic pastoral scene is shattered by an act of betrayal and the ensuing heartbreak.

In the ballet blanc second act, Giselle haunts the stage with her host of vengeful spirits, but ultimately the strength of her love transcends even death and bestows forgiveness upon her repentant lover.

"This is the ideal way to view a ballet for the first time," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "The brilliant visuals, close-ups and perfectly recorded sound create an absolutely perfect dance experience."

Giselle will be screened once only, on Friday, October 12, at 8 pm. Tickets are $15/$8 students, and may be purchased at 802 382-9222, www.townhalltheater.org, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, noon-5 pm) or at the door.
