The Union Theatre Presents Noel Coward's ACE OF CLUBS, May 7-31
The Union Theatre is transforming into a 1940s nightclub for its revival of the classic Noel Coward musical, 'Ace of Clubs'. A romantic throwback to another era, the story involves strapping sailors, gangland thugs, a stolen necklace, star-crossed lovers and sharp-tongued chorus girls, all taking place in a Soho nightclub in 1949. The score was the source for many songs which became part of Coward's own cabaret repertoire, including such well-loved standards as Sail Away, Josephine, I Like America, Three Juvenile Delinquents, Chase Me, Charlie, and many more. Following the Union Theatre's well-established reputation for rediscovering lost musical theatre gems, Ace of Clubs has not been staged professionally in Central London since its original 1950 production.
Cast includes Lucy May Barker (Spring Awakening, Sweeney Todd, National Theatre), Emma Harris (Chicago, Evita), Kate Milner-Evans (The Phantom of the Opera), Gary Wood (A Chorus Line, Wicked) and Michael Hobbs (Lord of the Rings, Carry On Columbus).
Filled with irresistible characters and songs, and all presented with Coward's inimitable combination of cut-glass wit, unfinching honesty and, of course, plenty of London Pride, The Union Theatre has come up trumps with 'Ace of Clubs', this revival of a forgotten Coward classic!
Ace of Clubs will run from May 7th until May 31st with performances Tuesday through Saturday at 7.30pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm.
