Marlowe Theatre presents BEACHED, October 28-November 1.

A British premiere, the play will launch at the Canterbury venue on Tuesday 28 October. It will run until Saturday 1 November before transferring to London's Soho Theatre for three weeks. Casting is to be announced.

Beached is written by Australian Melissa Bubnic, who has written for the TV series Shameless. Having never had her play produced on this scale before, she said: "I wrote Beached back in 2010. Ultimately you write a play to see it performed and to see an audience react.

"I'm so glad, and thankful for the opportunity, that so many people will get to see the play this autumn."

Beached tells the story of 18-year-old Arty, who, at 63 stone, is morbidly obese and the world's fattest teenager. He is a young man literally going nowhere.

All this is set to change when a reality TV crew moves in to ruthlessly document Arty's supposed transformation from bedridden walrus to trousered sophisticate. But with the cameras rolling, something totally unexpected happens - Arty falls in love.
