Sonia Friedman Productions (SFP) has appointed Donna Munday in the new role of Executive Producer.

Munday joins the company on 6 April 2015 and will work with acclaimed Producer Sonia Friedman on the development and production of musicals and plays on Broadway and in the West End. The announcement comes just days after Friedman was named Producer of the Year at The Stage Awards 2015 recognising a phenomenal year for SFP.

Munday joins the senior management team of Diane Benjamin, Executive Director and Pam Skinner, Executive Producer, who currently head up a team of twelve other members of staff who together produce over ten productions per year.

In her new role, Munday will continue with her current directorships as Chair of Board at the National Student Drama Festival and as a Headlong Theatre Company Board Member.

Munday has enjoyed a hugely successful career spanning three decades. She is currently Executive Producer of Billy Elliot the Musical (Holland), following five years at Working Title Films as Director of Theatre Production, where she had responsibility for the management of Working Title's Theatre Division, including Billy Elliot and the development of Bridget Jones the Musical.

Prior to this, she was Chief Executive of Sheffield Theatre, Executive Director of Nimax Theatres in London, Chief Executive of Royal and Derngate Theatres in Northampton, General Manager of Really Useful Theatres in London and Finance Director for the Royal Court Theatre.

Speaking about her new appointment at SFP, Munday said, "I am thrilled to be joining SFP at this time. I have watched Sonia go from strength to strength over the past 20 years, she is now at the top of her game, and to have the opportunity to work with her on the outstanding range and breadth of brilliant shows that she produces will be fantastic. SFP is operating at the highest possible level and I can't wait to get started with Sonia and her exceptional team."

Producer Sonia Friedman said, "I have wanted to work with Donna ever since we first met at the Royal Court in 1995, so I'm absolutely delighted that she is joining our amazingly dedicated team. Donna has the most wonderful energy and breadth of experience and I can't wait for us to start working together."

Sonia Friedman Productions, founded in 2002, is a West End and Broadway production company responsible for some of the most successful theatre productions in London and on Broadway over the past few years. SFP has developed, initiated and produced over 140 new productions and has won numerous Olivier and Tony Awards, including a record-breaking 14 at the 2014 Olivier Awards (Best New Musical, Best New Play, Best Revival of a Musical and Best Revival of a Play, among others).

Recent West End and Broadway theatre productions and co-productions include: the UK premiere of 'The Book of Mormon', Jez Butterworth's 'The River' on Broadway, starring Hugh Jackman, 'Electra', 'King Charles III', 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Shakespeare in Love', 'Jerusalem', 'Ghosts', 'Mojo', 'Chimerica', 'Twelfth Night & Richard III' and 'Old Times'.

Forthcoming productions include 'The Nether', 'Bend it Like Beckham the Musical' and 'Hamlet' starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Sonia will also collaborate with J. K. Rowling on a new stage play to be based on the Harry Potter stories in co-production with Colin Callender.

Current television productions include the television adaptation of Ronald Harwood's 'The Dresser' starring Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen, to be directed by Richard Eyre for the BBC. This follows directly after her current partnership with Playground Entertainment on the six-part mini-series adaptation of Hilary Mantel's 'Wolf Hall' for the BBC and Masterpiece co-produced by Company Pictures.

SFP is a subsidiary of the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) - the world's number one live-theatre company.
