Pilobolus Dance Theater will bring their internationally acclaimed hit show SHADOWLAND to the UK, premiering at Sadler's Wells' Peacock Theatre from 11 - 30 March 2014.

Created by Pilobolus in the wake of their seminal performance at the 79th Academy Awards in 2007, and the first theatrical event of its kind to tour the globe, SHADOWLAND combines shadow theatre, dance, circus and music, using dynamic screens to create a performance that merges projected images and front-of screen choreography.

Pilobolus's unique shadow dance work has inspired many other companies and productions around the world, including the winners of Britain's Got Talent 2013.

Created in collaboration with Steven Banks, lead writer for popular animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, and set to an original score by acclaimed American musician, producer and film composer David Poe, SHADOWLAND has been seen by almost one million people worldwide.

By turns, dramatic, comedic, erotic and surreal, SHADOWLAND portrays a teenage girl's coming of age, as her longing for independence takes her down into her dream-world - The Shadowland. Unable to escape, the girl sets off on a journey of discovery. She meets a series of strange creatures along her way, at once comic and evil, threatening and seductive; mad chefs try to cook her in a soup, hunch-hand monsters threaten to crush her, a giant hand transforms her into a dog, before a powerful centaur finds a way into the dog-girl's heart... and bed.

SHADOWLAND celebrates the strange transformative power of the dark to show us who and what we are in unexpected and thrilling ways.
