One year on from the release of their debut album, The Pies are back with another rare live performance, this time at The Epstein Theatre on Friday 20th October.

Formed in the late 80's, The Pies were regulars on the Liverpool music scene until their untimely split in 1993 without even a debut album to their name. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Ashley Martin knew he had to continue with the legacy of The Pies and decided to form a new line-up.

The band were also famous for their graffiti placed around the region, the most popular and well known being on a bridge across the M57 at Switch Island. THE PIES is mysteriously replaced every time it is removed.

Their first album was released last year under the title Best of Pies and featured new songs as well as songs they have performed in occasional appearances over the years.

The Pies band includes Ashley Martin and Tim Kinch (Drums). Two original member's Si Lee (guitar) and Lee Shone (keys) as well as bass player Tony Oxley. There will also be a variety of special musical guests performing with the band, which will be kept top secret until the night.

The band try to encourage and support local emerging artists, and provide many with the opportunity to perform at their shows. This concert will feature plenty of fresh talent including: Liverpool's own Mark Roberts the world's most prolific streaker, who will be causing laughs aplenty with his very first comedy stand-up spot; as well as performances from singer-songwriter Anthony Miller, a debut performance from duet Holly Fearnon and Calum Harrison, and 14-year-old singer and ukulele player Bethany Hamm.

The Pies' music has had a long time to develop and it comes from the heart. They are songs of hope, written about their problems, but they are never too miserable or depressing as humour has always been a part of The Pies' makeup.

Ashley Martin from The Pies said of the upcoming concert: "I love the Epstein Theatre, it's layout and intimacy is perfect for a Pies show. I have 2 original band members with me Si Lee and Lee Shone, and we are all looking forward to letting rip on the songs again.

"Mark Roberts' stories of his exploits are hilarious, it's great to showcase him in a stand-up performance, and as ever we are welcoming a fantastic pick of local musicians who will be showcasing their many talents which will add a fantastic energy to the night.

"A huge thanks to all the team at The Epstein for making this show happen!"

Theatre manager, Rebekah Pichilingi, said: "The Pies are a band with cult status across Liverpool thanks to the mystery that surrounded them. Last year saw the release of their highly anticipated debut album and we can't wait to see them perform all the songs live at The Epstein Theatre!"

The Epstein Theatre (formerly known as The Neptune) was originally opened as Crane's Music Hall in 1911, and was a popular location for recitals and performances. It was renamed Crane Theatre in 1938. In 1967 the theatre was purchased from the Cranes by Liverpool Corporation, who decided that the theatre should be run by local people for local people and was named The Neptune Theatre. The Neptune also became a Comedy Club and after many years of uncertainty about the future of the theatre, it eventually closed in 2005. In July 2011, a £1million refurbishment of the theatre was completed which saw the Hanover Street venue brought up to 21st century standards and renamed 'The Epstein Theatre' in honour of former Beatles manager Brian Epstein, who guided the Fab Four from popular cellar act to global superstardom. The management contract was up for tender and was won by the well-established team behind Liverpool's annual Sound City Music Festival. The Theatre was officially opened on Wed 9th May 2012. Now an independent company Epstein Theatre Ltd, the venue has grown to become of the key venues for arts and live entertainment in the city with a strong programme of comedy, plays, live music and children's productions. The venue can also be hired out for private functions, weddings and conferences.
