The Rose is preparing to open its first home-grown production of 2011, William Shakespeare's As You Like It directed by Stephen Unwin.
The production, supported by Kingston University, is a unique collaboration between the Theatre and the University, enabling students to become involved in depth with the production and work with a cast of professional actors.
Ten students from the MA Classical Theatre course have been heavily involved in the production since the first day of rehearsals. Their roles have included taking part in production research, shadowing actors and creating characters in preparation to perform on stage themselves. The students will also assist in the wardrobe department and contribute musically. Nine of the ten students will appear on stage in the production, and one student has taken on the role of Assistant Director.
Kingston University MA student Naomi Marsden said "watching Stephen Unwin direct has been fascinating and we've loved being involved in scenes and contributing to discussions with our research. It's given us a real insight into what a rehearsal environment is like and how a play moves from page to stage. It's a wonderful experience to be a part of this fantastic production."
