AN EXCITING one-woman show - and the first piece of new work to be co-commissioned by The Marlowe Studio - is coming to the venue next month.

Blind is performed by the UK's leading female beat-boxer, Grace Savage. Acting as a mouthpiece for young women today, Savage offers the most unlikely of musicals as she explores the life, journey and experiences of a visually-impaired young woman and a world encountered through darkness and light, whispers and lullabies, sirens, screams, party political broadcasts and storms.

A collage of fragments of sounds from the world we live in, Blind looks at the things young women overhear, that they are told by their mothers, learn in the school playground, or in the pop charts. An interrogation into the influences on young women today, Blind examines the songs, sounds and statements that our world is making and asks how they can affect who we become.

The Marlowe Studio is proud to be opening The Paper Birds Theatre Company's tour of Blind, and to be supporting the work of this exciting and acclaimed theatre company. Blind is The Marlowe Studio's first co-commission, alongside Theatre In The Mill.

Artistic Director of The Paper Birds Theatre Company Jemma McDonnell said: "Following the success of Thirsty last year, we are thrilled to be returning to the Marlowe Studio with Blind, our new political beat-boxing show. Having The Marlowe as a co-commissioner and supporter of the work has been wonderful as working with regional venues and shifting the focus of exciting new work being made outside of London is vital in raising the profiles of wonderful supporting venues such as The Marlowe."

Blind (recommended for those aged 14 and over) is at The Marlowe Studio at 8pm on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 April. Tickets cost £12 (concessions and Discovery Tickets available; booking fees apply). To book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or marlowetheatre.com.
