BBC Proms Celebrates Sondheim's Birthday With 'Sondheim At 80,' July 31

The BBC Proms had dedicated its July 31st concert to celebrate Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday. The concert, entitled 'Sondheim at 80,' will feature selections from some of Sondheim's greatest works including SWEENEY TODD, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, COMPANY, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, INTO THE WOODS and PACIFIC OVERTURES.

Performing in the concert will be Bryn Terfel, Maria Friedman and Simon Russell Beale, who will also be joined by singers from the BBC Performing Arts Fund. Martin Duncan will direct the concert. David Charles Abell will conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The BBC Proms are an annual summer concert festival for classical music. This year's festival runs July 16 to September 11.

The entire concert wil be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 as well as on BBC2 on TV. The concert will begin at 7:30pm, a Proms Intro will begin at 5:45pm.
