Indaba Theatre presents Marigold Day's - Conversations of Change, an interactive performance at Nefetari's Black on Black Rhyme night, next Tuesday, October 11 at 8:00 pm. Free before 8:00, if you mention Gwen Marshall. Ten-dollar cover after that.

Marigold Day's - Conversations of Change is the first of a three-part series designed to help promote peace in the community.

As President Obama said at his first Town Hall meeting on race in July, "We create change by talking about it, with our friends, neighbors and loved ones." Director Donna Cotterell introduces the audience to Forum Theatre, created by Brazilian Playwright, Augusto Boal. These improvisational skits are designed to end in failure in order to engage the audience in an active exchange of ideas to facilitate the change they want to see. Participants will take on a directorial role in changing places with the actors and changing dialogue and behaviors to bring about a positive outcome. Ms. Cotterell states, "We can't change the oppressor. But, we can change how we react or respond to the oppression that we see around us." The first of this series will focus on the ubiquitous display of the use of deadly force seen throughout the national nightly news of late. Candidates running for the Leon County Sheriff's Office have been invited to attend.

The second performance will be about black-on-black crime. The third performance will integrate the two concepts into a play based on Ms. Cotterell's own family stories. Her family history dates back five generations in the Big Bend region. She would like these performances to take place in January and April. The venue is to be determined.

"Indaba is a Zulu word for coming together for a meeting or a purpose. Our purpose is to inspire empower, uplift and create healthy outlets of self-expression; using theater as therapy to help people overcome obstacles in their life."
