The Puzzle Collective are proud to present the world premiere of Superhal, a reimagining of Shakespeare's Henriad as a superhero origin story, at NIDA Parade Theatre from March 7th to 18th.

In an alternate England ruled by beings with superhuman powers, the young Prince Hal rebels against his father, the King, by associating with thieves, pimps and drunkards. When his father passes away and the country is plunged into civil war, Hal finds the strength to become a soldier, and then a king. But at what cost?

Told over three plays by Shakespeare, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V, Superhal will contextualise the story for a modern audience and present the classical characters using imagery and archetypes that audiences are familiar with from the superhero universe.

Written and directed by John Galea (The Tempest - Steampunked!), with original music by Victor Spiegel (Angels in America), and costume design by Clare McCutcheon (Shopping and F**cking and Ildy Izso (Much Ado About Nothing), Superhal promises to be a theatrical spectacular.

Superhal will feature a cast of Sydney's finest established and emerging talent, including Richard Hilliar (Edward II) in the starring role as Hal, with Emily Weare as Queen Isabel, John Michael Burdon as Falstaff and David Attrill as King Henry IV.

Director of The Puzzle Collective and Superhal, John Galea, said "I've always thought that Shakespeare had huge pop culture potential, so we're really excited to be presenting a new version of King Henry V. Hal is a supercharged action hero with deep inner conflicts who struggles with the responsibility his power gives him, and we're dropping him into a fully imagined alternative universe, with the special effects and drama to match."

Established in 2012, The Puzzle Collective is comprised of artists, writers, actors and engineers dedicated to creating high quality live experiences.
