It is official.

It was earlier today confirmed in an official statement on Peter Jöback's website that a Swedish revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's haunting smash hit: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is on its way!

Former Broadway and West End Phantom Peter Jöback is once again going to take on the lead role of the Phantom in a new Swedish revival of the original replica production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in Stockholm, Septemer 2016.

Auditions for the role of Christine Daaé, the female protagonist, Raol and the rest of the ensemble will be held in May in front of the international creative team.

"After my fantastic trip to the West End and Broadway, it feels very special to bring back this classic to Sweden again." Said Jöback in a statement on his website.

Tickets will be released later in the year.

Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L'Opéra by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.

The first Swedish production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, translated by Lars Sjöberg, premiered at Oscarsteatern on October 27 1989 and played until June 18, 1995, for a total run of 1173 performances and was seen by 1 055 800 people. Mikael Samuelsson originated the role of Phantom with Elisabeth Berg and Tua Åberg as Christine Daaé.

In 2012, Peter Joöback was invited to take part in Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Cameron Mackintosh's 25th anniversary celebration of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Royal Albert Hall where he was introduced as the West Ends next Phantom and made his Broadway debut the following year as the first European in this role since Michael Crawford 25 years ago. Jöback also performed the title song at the 67th Annual Tony Awards alongside Samantha Hill the same year.

Peter has previously starred in several productions of world's most widely seen musicals such as MISS SAIGON, GREASE, KRISTINA FRÅN DUVEMÅLA,THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK and CABARET, and is a platinum-selling Swedish recording artist and performer. He has been awarded gold and platinum discs for all of his releases as well as several Swedish Grammy nominations. He has sold over one million albums, including the best-selling Swedish albums of both 2006 and 2008. Peter finished 2012 selling out arenas with the tour I Love Musicals, featuring guest performers from Broadway and the West End.
