THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD Makes Charleston Premiere at South of Broadway Theatre, Now thru 3/29

The 1907 World Premier of J.M. Synge's "The Playboy of the Western World" caused riots in Dublin. At this Charleston Premier we can --- at the very least --- promise you Riotous Laughter!!!

Synopsis of the story: On the west coast of County Mayo a young man named Christy stumbles into Flaherty's tavern. There he claims that he is on the run because he killed his father by driving a loy (shovel) into his skull. Flaherty praises Christy for his boldness, and Flaherty's daughter, Pegeen, falls in love with Christy, to the dismay of her fiancé Shawn. Christy's quickly becomes a town hero. He enjoys the life of a celebrity until his angry father, who is very much alive, shows up at the tavern looking for him. Along the way there are, toasts, songs, power plays, a wake, angry villagers, a mule race, unusual gifts, and one knock down drag out fight.

Key players: This production showcases a large cast of some of your favorite Charleston actors -- all of whom have been fine-tuning their Irish brogues for months!

Featuring: Sean Rafferty (Christy), Lizzie Mears (Pegeen), Braxton Williams (Michael Flaherty), Mark Poremba (old Mahon), Shawn (Kody Roza), Jimmy (Fred Hutter), Philly (Peter Ferneding), and Samantha Andrews (Widow Quinn).
