The Swan Ruan Ensemble is a young and experimental ensemble established in 2011. Under the musical direction of Jim Tan, the Ensemble strives to offer a contemporary perspective on the art of ruan, an ancient Chinese stringed instrument which has journeyed a long way into modern society.
With youthful voices and a contemporary approach to their performances, the Swan Ruan Ensemble aims to spark the interest and appreciation of the ruan to all. Also in conjunction with the inaugural Ding Yi Chinese Chamber Music Festival in the Esplanade in December, the ensemble will present a repertoire of traditional and classic Chinese pieces at the Concourse.
