In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Broadway production this fall, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater mounts a new staging of Fiddler on the Roof, the iconic musical that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Helmed by Artistic Director Molly Smith, the production features choreography by Arena favoriteParker Esse, who adapts the original Jerome Robbins choreography for an in-the-round staging, and a 10-piece orchestra led by Musical Director Paul Sportelli (Arena's My Fair Lady, Light in the Piazza). Hamptons tastemakers with a keen eye for excellent design and fine art flocked to the newly launched venture of acclaimed interior designer Elizabeth Hagins and noted artist, art advisor & collector Richard Mortimer, Hagins & Mortimer Design at 9 Windmill Lane in Southampton Village. The draw was an exclusive salon style showing of the works of two well known painters - artists Christopher Milne and William Pagano. The exhibition was set in the midst of important 20th Century furniture and lighting. The show will continue through Monday, August 18. Milne's and Pagano's works can be seen Thursday through Mondayfrom 12 to 6 and Sunday, 12 to 5. BroadwayWorld has photos from the launch below! (more...)

The recipient of an Academy Award and four Tony Awards, it is generally agreed by theatre analysts that 'Arcadia,' a production of which is now on stage at Mamai Theatre, is one of the western world's greatest plays. Raven's revival of this later play by Tennessee Williams that was 'rediscovered' in acclaimed productions in London and New York is autobiographical play that Williams first began writing around the time he started The Glass Menagerie. It concerns a young writer who in 1938 moves to a ramshackle French Quarter rooming house that's home to an assortment of desperate and eccentric characters. The New York Times said Vieux Carre is, along with The Glass Menagerie, Williams' other autobiographical memory play, one of two 'critical bookends' to Williams' career. Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man, a new comedy written by Matt Murphy, based on the best-selling book by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman, is now in its fourth smash month Off-Broadway at The 777 Theatre (777 Eighth Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets). Carson Kressley dropped by the show late last week just in time to say good bye to the comedy's original cast members and to welcome new cast members Grant MacDermott, Rachel Moulton, and BJ Gruber (who begin on Thursday, May 1).
