The Lion in Winter by James Goldman reigns over the Lohrey Stage at Theatre Memphis January 22 - February 7, 2016. As historical fiction this modern classic pits Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (after a decade of imprisonment for her part in a rebellion) against her husband King Henry II of England,  Eleanor arrives at court during a Christmas furlough and proceeds to scheme to challenge the King's authority and his choice of heir to the throne. The fray engulfs their three sons and French royalty who all lay claim to rule.

Following a sold-out run of The Importance of Being Earnest, Seattle Shakespeare Company announced today that it will extend its production of King Lear through May 17 with four additional performances at the Cornish Playhouse. The cast of THE KING AND I includes the incredibly talented and imposingly regal Ron Banks as the King of Siam, who has performed the role over 500 times in both national and regional productions. He was born to play the role and embodies the heart and soul of a King caught between loving his culture yet wanting to be accepted as a modern man.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Cincinnati's stage for the classics, presents William Shakespeare's poetic history 'Richard II', playing from tonight, January 11- February 3, 2013. Trinity Rep opens its 49th season this month with Shakespeare's sweeping tragedy King Lear, a co-production with The Dallas Theater Center (DTC) and directed by DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty. When the aging King Lear decides to divide his power between his three daughters, the results are devastating to the family - and the country. Driven by flattery, foolishness, ambition and greed, each generation soon betrays another and even nature itself revolts. King Lear runs through October 21 in Trinity Rep's intimate Dowling Theater. Currently on stage at the Donmar Warehouse is Michael Grandage's RICHARD II, featuring Tony-winner Eddie Redmayne. Redmayne has worked with Grandage in the past in 'Red,' in which he co-starred with Alfred Molina.

Only eight other musicals have reached this milestone, including Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
