A Christmas Carol at Theatre Memphis will open December 6, 2013, with a tribute gala event honoring Barry Fuller. Fuller, who was the first actor to portray Ebenezer Scrooge in the original Theatre Memphis, will be reprising the role this year for his 13th and last time at Theatre Memphis. A Christmas Carol returns to Theatre Memphis this year for the 36th consecutive year and runs through December 23 on the Lohrey Stage with weekend evening shows and matinees and some weeknight performances. Weekday school matinee performances (a truncated version without Fuller) are on the Lohrey Stage December 4 - December 20, 2012 (2 performances per day at 9:30am and 11am. The Road Company Theater's popular, sold-out 2013 summer camp at the Grand Theatre will culminate in fully staged productions of Disney's Aladdin, Jr. and Legally Blonde: The Musical in August. "While there are other summer camps for parents to choose from for their children, many favor ours because of its affordability and the intensive six-week program dedicated to training in auditioning, stage presence, voice, dance, and the technical aspects of live theater, in addition to rehearsing and performing shows," stated Lauri Hudson, Road Company president. Jennifer Gerhart, mother of Stevie Rose and Sofia, said: "I couldn't imagine either of my girls at any other camp or with any other instructors. I doubt it would be the same experience." Guerilla Opera presents Gallo: a fable in music in one act, a world premiere chamber opera with music and libretto by Rome-Prize winning composer Ken Ueno, and direction by Metropolitan Opera stage director Sarah Meyers. The world premiere chamber opera investigates how the landscape and man shape and transform each other. It also addresses the fundamental question of ontology, "the chicken or the egg," and features a soprano in a Houdini box filled with Cheerios and a countertenor in a chicken suit. Gallo plays Thursday through Saturday, May 22-24 and 29-30, 2014 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 31 at 2 p.m. with talk-backs on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24. All performances are in The Zack Box at The Boston Conservatory, 8 The Fenway, Boston, MA. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 seniors and free for students with valid IDs; tickets can be purchased from The Boston Conservatory Box Office by phone or in person only. Call (617) 912-9222 beginning Monday, May 12, 2014 to reserve tickets. Please visit www.bostonconservatory.edu/tickets for more Box Office information.
