THE ENGLISH BRIDE to Make New York Premiere at 59E59 Theaters, 10/23-11/17

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) welcomes Centenary Stage Company with the NYC premiere of THE ENGLISH BRIDE, written by Lucile Lichtblau and directed by Carl Wallnau. THE ENGLISH BRIDE begins performances on Wednesday, October 23 for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 17. Press opening is Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday at 8:30 PM; and Saturday at 2:30 PM & 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM & 7:30 PM. At a recent event, I had the chance to chat with Matt Bailey (Tommy DeVito), Alayna Gallo (Lorraine and others), and Kevin Crewell (Bob Crewe and others) from the national touring company of Jersey Boys about the show, their experiences, and their acting beginnings. Brian Stokes Mitchell's credits include work as an actor, singer, dancer, voice-over artist, author, arranger, orchestrator, conductor and record producer. He has enjoyed a career on Broadway, television and film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls. On Valentine's Day this year, he joined the national TV phenomenon of Glee (along with Jeff Goldblum) to play one of Rachel's (Lea Michele) two Dads. (more...)

East Lynne Theater Company Presents 'Sherlock Holmes' Adventure of the Norwood Builder,' 3/15 & 16

Sherlock Holmes is speaking to his loyal friend Dr. Watson. They are trying desperately to prove that a young lawyer did not commit murder, while Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard is convinced of it. Step back in time, on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at 8:00p.m., when ELTC presents Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Norwood Builder' in the style of a radio broadcast, complete with live sound effects and commercials. East Lynne Theater Company presents the world premiere ZORRO!

The award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company's next production is a swashbuckler: the world premiere of 'Zorro!' based on Johnston McCulley's 'The Curse of Capistrano' (1919) adapted by James Rana. Spanish for 'fox,' Zorro fought the oppressive colonial government in Spanish California with a quick sword and wit. Wearing a mask, he kept his identity secret, even to the woman he loved. In 1939, Bob Kane and Bill Finger gave credit to McCulley's masked avenger, with his dual identity, as their inspiration for 'Batman.' Like Bruce Wayne and Batman, Don Diego and Zorro are never seen together at the same time. (more...)

On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:00p.m., enter the mysterious world of 'Rip Van Winkle' at the West Cape May Elementary School, 301 Moore St., West Cape May, performed by seventeen students under the direction of East Lynne Theater Company's artistic director, Gayle Stahlhuth. The script is based on the short story classic about a man who encounters the ghosts of Captain Henry Hudson and his crew in the hills of Sleepy Hollow, written by Washington Irving over one-hundred years ago. One of ELTC's upcoming summer mainstage productions is the world premiere of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' adapted by James Rana from another Irving tale. (more...)

A TIME TRAVELER'S TRIP TO NIAGRA Premieres at Hudson Guild Theatre this May

America-in-Play will present the premiere of A Time-Traveler's Trip to Niagra, Following the Bold Adventures and Strange Detours of an Unlikely Group of Travelers Across Time and America. Running May 3-18 at the Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street), this unique comedy interweaves two journeys up the Hudson River: one by bus in 2014 and one by steamboat in 1828. From upper class Brits taking a tour of the Early Republic to a modern brother and sister taking a bus ride upstate to trace their roots, the two trips converge at the iconic and spectacular Niagara Falls and aim to investigate the relationship between the American landscape and identity while exploring ties between past and future.
