The Performing Arts Department Theatre program has announced its Fall 2014 Harry Hope Theatre season of shows whichwill take the characters and the audiences on journeys through time to distant shores. First up, On The Verge, or the Geography of Yearning by Eric Overmyer will be directed by F. Chase Rozelle III and will run October 7-12, 2014 (Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 4 p.m.)in the Harry Hope Theatre (Shafer Hall ground floor; corner of High and Valley Streets, Willimantic, CT 06226). Freely drawn from Pamela Ward's story 'The Hairy Little Girl,' 'An Almost Holy Picture' follows the odyssey of former minister Samuel Gentle as he travels from Massachusetts to New Mexico - and from despair to triumph - heeding a mysterious voice. 'An Almost Holy Picture' opens February 2 and runs through February 20, 2011 in the Studio Theatre of the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) on the HCC campus. ON THE VERGE opens in 1888, as the three adventurers - Fanny along with Mary and Alexandra - make landfall 'somewhere east of Australia and west of Peru.' Refusing Sherpas, bearers or other native guides, they brave the hills and jungles of 'Terra Incognita' with only the most essential items, including machetes, rope, umbrellas, butterfly nets, watercolors, peacock feathers, lemon drops and a rhinestone tiara for official meetings with local poobahs. Opening with David Davalos' 'Wittenberg,' Rep Stage's 17th season will feature Tennesse Williams' classic 'The Glass Menagerie'; an Edward Albee play directed by Helen Hayes Award-winning director Kasi Campbell; a unique Dickens-esque holiday offering at Belmont Manor and much more.
