SECONDARY IMPACT (a Dr. Danny Tilson Novel) by Barbara Ebel, M.D. is ReleaesdSECONDARY IMPACT (a Dr. Danny Tilson Novel) by Barbara Ebel, M.D. is Releaesd
by BWW News Desk - Nov 30, 2015

Tragedy on the basketball court. From the credible medical fiction writer, Dr. Barbara Ebel, the fourth Dr. Danny Tilson novel - Secondary Impact - makes its debut. Neurosurgeon Danny Tilson is engrossed in a college basketball game when a player gets knocked down, slamming his head on the court. The athlete is his daughter's boyfriend and after suffering a second blow to his head he lies in a coma. 'Danny faces multiple obstacles as he takes care of the guy his daughter loves,' Ebel mentions. 'His own daughter questions his neurosurgical methods and his old Nemesis, Rachel, is plotting avidly against him. At the crux of the medical issue is whether or not existing treatment for certain head injuries is good enough. Can Danny develop new technology... something so revolutionary it could improve patient care after traumatic head injuries forever?' The Midwest Book Review states: 'By now it should be evident to prior fans that the words 'Dr. Danny Tilson novel' actually promise a medical story well on par with the best works of Robin Cook and other notables; ... 'Secondary Impact' isn't just about the outcome of a sports injury or a creative surgeon's abilities: it's about the outcomes of many stormy relationships and, ultimately, about new life and new beginnings ... 'Powered by solid protagonists, a touch of intrigue, and a host of complex interpersonal relationships, the novel stays true to its characters throughout and is highly recommended ...' Dr. Barbara's Danny Tilson novels can each stand alone but the characters are best appreciated by reading them in succession. The books are: Operation Neurosurgeon (Book One); Silent Fear: a Medical Mystery (Book Two - also an audiobook); and Collateral Circulation: a Medical Mystery (Book Three - also an audiobook). Barbara Ebel's series takes place in Tennessee, where she currently lives in a protected wildlife corridor with her husband and pets. She has also written and illustrated a children's book series about her therapy dog titled Chester the Chesapeake, another novel - Outcome, A Novel - and a health book, Younger Next Decade. 'Secondary Impact' can be found as an eBook on Amazon.com, B&N Nook, Kobo and most online retailers. It is also a paperback on Amazon.com and will be available like her other books on Overdrive, etc. for major libraries. (more...)

by Greg Alcock - Nov 16, 2015

It's Christmas Eve 1946 in Washington, DC and you've ventured out into the cold with your family to the local radio station to see a live performance of Frank Capra's yet-to-be-classic, It's a Wonderful Life. Taking the stage among dozens of sound effects tools are some of your favorite local radio actors, ready to immerse you in the idealized world of Bedford Falls and the life of the town's hero, George Bailey. As the five actors and one foley artist take you through the sentimental story, they portray dozens of characters and create dozens more sounds as your imagination is left to paint the full picture. New WWII Thriller MY NAZI NEMESIS is ReleasedNew WWII Thriller MY NAZI NEMESIS is Released
by BWW News Desk - Jan 26, 2016

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y., Jan 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ With the passing of the greatest generation, fewer and fewer of the great WWII heroes and heroines remain. 'This sad fact,' says author Rich DiSilvio, 'is my impetus to keep this unique chapter of history alive. Additionally, I feel it's imperative to reveal facts that have not been told to the broader public, such as those in this novel. It's disturbing how the human will and morals can collapse under dire circumstances.' While Rich has treated this subject before in his non-fictional tome, The Winds of Time, and his fictional thriller, Liszt's Dante Symphony, he has now chosen to entangle the horrors of Auschwitz with a gripping and fast-paced tale that includes suspenseful twists and turns, and his trademark wit and humor, thus making My Nazi Nemesis unlike any other WWII novel. Sondra Radvanovsky sings the second of the three Queens in Donizetti's 'Tudor trilogy' when she stars as the devout, doomed Mary, Queen of Scots in Maria Stuarda, opening January 29. Maria Stuarda tells the story of the political and personal rivalry between two queens: Mary, Queen of Scots and her cousin and rival, Queen Elizabeth I. Radvanovsky is the first soprano in Met history who will sing the lead roles in all three Donizetti Queen operas in the course of a single New York season, a feat famously accomplished by Beverly Sills at New York City Opera in the 1970s. by Jay Irwin - Feb 5, 2016

Dear Reader (It only seems appropriate to start this review off with that), sometimes a show comes along that feels like a no brainer. A show that's fairly bulletproof and if a theater does it well enough with enough pieces in place then it'll be a crowd pleaser. 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' is one of those shows. You're bound to walk away from it with something you enjoyed. Which brings me to the current production at the 5th Avenue Theatre. They've managed to take this pleaser of a show so far beyond the bare minimum making this gem shine with so much brilliance that you may need sunglasses. (more...)

BWW Review: Kennedy Center's OLIVERio: A BRAZILIAN TWIST Takes Audience on Trip to RioBWW Review: Kennedy Center's OLIVERio: A BRAZILIAN TWIST Takes Audience on Trip to Rio
by Jennifer Perry - Feb 1, 2016

Over the past season or two, we've seen our fair share of professional productions of OLIVER in the DC area. Adventure Theatre MTC took a stab at it over the summer and Arena Stage offered up a steampunk version of the classic musical a few months ago. While the Kennedy Center's current TYA production of OLIVERio: A BRAZILIAN TWIST shares the same Charles Dickens-penned source material, those looking for the familiar Lionel Bart musical will find that what's being offered up onstage at the Kennedy Center is quite different - and not just the setting. A Kennedy Center commission featuring a book and lyrics by Karen Zacarias and music by Deborah Wicks La Puma, OLIVERio: A BRAZILIAN TWIST explores what would happen if a theatre company intended to stage a standard production of OLIVER set in 19th century London, but suddenly realized the available scenic design (Luciana Stecconi) and costumes (Ivania Stack) wouldn't quite work for that purpose.
