The Cincinnati POPS Orchestra, under the direction of John Morris Russell, has recorded SUPERHEROES a new and incredibly fun CD. Along with the POPS the CD showcases the talents of the May Festival Youth Chorus, the CCM Musical Theatre Department, Julie Spangler, and even Adam West who played the 3rd feature film Batman in 1966 and starred as Batman in the ABC television series that ran from 1966 - 1968. All 15 tracks are the musical themes for the most memorable television and movie superheroes. This record will satisfy many different tastes of music because while some of the songs are completely instrumental others include speaking and singing. (more...)

Children's E-Book 'Gravy and the Boattrain' is Released

Imagitale Studios hopes kids will love science through characters introduced in the new children's e-book Gravy and the Boattrain by David Hurd. The e-book tells the story of Gravy Boone, a teenage inventor living in Sawville, Indiana and he is crazy about science. His rural lab named the Barnatory is a haven for his scientific creations. With the help of his best friend Nathan, they build the Boattrain, Gravy's most awesome creation yet. The Boattrain is an all-terrain vehicle that takes Gravy on a wild adventure as he prepares to display it at the Marion County Science Fair. The Boattrain is sure to take top prize at the fair and turn Gravy into a scientific rock star. The only thing standing in his way is Nemesis Melvin Snurley who taunts him mercilessly in the weeks leading up to the fair. The rivalry tests Gravy's intellect, creativity, and most importantly, his friendship with Nathan. Gravy must overcome his insecurities and frustrations if he plans to win top prize at the science fair and triumph over Melvin. The creepily campy, gruesomely goofy premise of the 1960s classic Little Shop of Horrors begs audiences to leave their disbelief at the door and come along on a wacky ride requiring runaway imagination. The Maryland Institute College of Art's student-run Rivals of the West Theatre Co. is an ideal team to tackle this big story with a small-ish cast, as the fine arts students have endowed the production with their outstanding creativity, evident in the stunning set design and masterful puppetry.
