GOOD PEOPLE Cast and Creative Team Announced for The Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the San Diego Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, the award-winning play about class divisions in modern-day Boston. Directed by Paul Mullins, Good People will run Sept. 29 - Oct. 28, 2012 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Sept. 29 - Oct. 3. Opening night is Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE or by visiting the Box Office at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. Rehearsals began this week at Steppenwolf Theatre Company for the 2012/13 season opener, Good People, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire's surprising, humorous and deeply moving tale of a modern American story set in economically opposed South Boston and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Ensemble member K. Todd Freeman directs Lindsay-Abaire's Steppenwolf debut, featuring ensemble members Alana Arenas, Mariann Mayberry and Molly Regan. Good People begins previews September 13, with an opening night slated for September 23, and runs through November 11, 2012, in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre. Queen Latifah to Join Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott in Craig Zadan and Neil Meron's STEEL MAGNOLIAS Movie

Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah has signed on to star in and executive produce the Lifetime Original Movie Event, Steel Magnolias, a television adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, reuniting her with her producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, from the Oscar and Golden Globe winning Chicago and Hairspray. (Zadan and Meron also produce Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva and Smash.) She will take on the role of 'M'Lynn' and star alongside an all-star cast that includes Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad as 'Clairee,' Golden Globe and multiple Emmy winner Alfre Woodard as 'Ouiser,' Grammy winner Jill Scott as 'Truvy,' Adepero Oduye as 'Annelle,' and Condola Rashad as 'Shelby.' The Grand Theatre presents the Utah premier of Miss Evers' Boys, the 1992 play by awarding-winning playwright David Feldshuh. The play, based on the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama that same year. The Tuskegee experiment was a U. S. funded secret medical experiment on poor African Americans from 1932 to 1972, designed to study the effects of untreated syphilis. Eunice Evers, the nurse caring for these men, is aware of their lack of treatment, but feels her role it so console the dying men, many of whom are her direct friends. The play runs February 2 through 18, 2012 with performances at 7:30 pm. and Saturday matinees as 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Grand Theatre box office. (more...)

The Grand Theatre is presenting the Utah premier of Miss Evers' Boys, the 1992 play by awarding-winning playwright David Feldshuh, February 2 through 18. As part of the production, the theatre is hosting a "talk back" after the 2:00 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, February 11. The "talk back" will feature director Toni Byrd, the actors, and Dr. Jeffrey Botkin, Vice President of Research Integrity at the University of Utah. Participants in the "talk back" will discuss the medical and ethical themes brought out in the play, with the actors discussing their characters' development as related to the medical experimentation. Jan Abramson, MS, will moderate the discussion. The event is free of charge and will begin after the matinee, in the theatre, at approximately 4:30 p.m. (more...)
