Writers of the Future Winner Matthew S. Rotundo Continues Publishing Career

Matthew S. Rotundo of Omaha, a winner in the 2009 Writers of the Future Contest and published in L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 25, has taken another step in his career as a professional writer. After seeing his winning story, 'Gone Black' published in the annual anthology-and so beating out several thousand other contestants- Rotundo is now finding that editors and publishers have become interested in what he is writing. The Flying Carpet Theatre (FCT) presents the New York premiere of THE Medicine ShowDOWN, a new play by Topher Payne and Adam Koplan that interweaves a traditional story (inspired by Henrik Ibsen's classic "Enemy of the People") with scenes from a turn-of-the-century Medicine Show, complete with tap dance, old time melodrama, country music and vaudevillian comedy. THE Medicine ShowDOWN begins performances October 12 prior to an official press opening of October 16 at the East 4th Street Theatre (83 East 4th Street - btw. Bowery and Second Avenue) in Manhattan. Findings from the randomized controlled trial demonstrate that Daily Challenge from MeYou Health (a subsidiary of Healthways (HWAY)) measurably improves the well-being of participants, particularly those who engage socially with other Daily Challenge participants. Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble, one of New York's longest-running experimental theatres, will stage Henry Fielding's 1730 classic Tom Thumb, which is officially known as The Tragedy of Tragedies; or the Life and Death of Tom Thumb the Great. The production opens today, June 7, 2013 and closes Sunday, June 30, 2013. Performances are scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8 p.m. There are no performances on Saturdays. Team FUV is once again partnering with NPR Music to broadcast live performances from the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island July 26-28. WFUV's Rita Houston and Alisa Ali will host the coverage, along with Ann Powers and Bob Boilen of NPR Music. The scheduled lineup for the weekend includes favorites The Avett Brothers, Beck, The Lumineers, and Old Crow Medicine Show, as well as up-and-comers The Lone Bellow and Shovels and Rope.
