Composer Anna Clyne to Hold Residency with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra This Season

Baltimore, MD (September 18, 2015) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) today announced a residency during the 2015-16 season with composer Anna Clyne. The residency will be comprised of three visits with the Orchestra, collaborative education activities with Baltimore City students, participation in a V-log on BSOMusic.org, a visit to an OrchKids school site, a collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art, and two performances of her orchestral music, culminating in the world premiere of a new work, commissioned by Bonnie McElveen-Hunter for the BSO and Music Director Marin Alsop in honor of Baltimore philanthropists Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker. Clyne, 35, known for her collaborations with cutting edge visual artists, dancers, and artists of multiple genres, will compose a piece for full orchestra that will be inspired by the contemporary art collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The work will have its world premiere at The Music Center at Strathmore on May 7, 2016 and will be performed at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on May 8, 2016. (more...)

Theatre Royal Stratford East Announces Full Casting for Bonnie Greer's THE HOTEL CERISE

Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East, Kerry Michael today announces the cast for the world premiere of Bonnie Greer's new play The Hotel Cerise, directed by Femi Elufowoju, jr. Inspired by Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard the production is a key part of the theatre's focus on commissioning new work and adaptations. Ellen Thomas leads the company, with El Anthony, Madeline Appiah, Michael Bertenshaw, Nicholas Beveney, Andrew Dennis, Abhin Galeya, Lacharne Jolly, Corey Montague-Sholay, Claire Prempeh, Alexis Rodney and Angela Wynter. Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore returns to the Met stage on March 10 starring Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo as the two young lovers, Adina and Nemorino. Italian conductor Enrique Mazzola makes his company debut leading performances of Bartlett Sher's 2012 staging. Alessandro Corbelli sings the role of Dulcamara, the loveable con man who sells the “magic elixir” of love, along with Adam Plachetka as the sergeant Belcore, who attempts to court Adina. Mario Chang and Pietro Spagnoli sing the last two performances on April 2 and 7 as Nemorino and Dulcamara respectively. (more...)

The stage will be transformed into a studio format nightclub installation where you sit on the stage for this funny yet heart-breaking tale directed by Associate Director, Pooja Ghai. Doors will open at 715pm for music and a bar on stage to soak up the atmosphere before the show. The experience will start then. Ghai directs Estella Daniels as Sophie and Lanre Malaolu as Abiodun.
