Miss Cooper will play her signature setup, a piano and an electric keyboard tuned a quartertone apart, used for its remarkable ability to capture the elusive quasi-pitches of the speaking voice. In the title role, David Adkins breathes life into the man, but the play needs life support. The Getty opera will be paired with Robert Orledge's completed version of Debussy's La Chute de la Maison Usher. For more than 30 years, Getty has pursued a career in classical composition while leading business ventures and giving millions of dollars in support of the arts and sciences through the Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation. His song cycles, operas, chamber music and works for chorus and orchestra have been performed in major venues around the world by ensembles including the San Francisco Symphony, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, London's Philharmonia Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra and many others. Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane, continues its landmark 30th anniversary season with the winner of 'Best Play' at the 2012 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe Awards, THE GAME'S AFOOT, previewing August 28, opening Thursday, September 4 at 8 p.m., and running through October 19, 2014. The cast is led by Derek Hasenstab (Broadway National Tour of The Lion King; The Foreigner and I Hate Hamlet at Drury Lane Theatre; Oedipus Complex at the Goodman Theatre; and Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater) as 'William Gillette' and nine-time Jeff Award-winner Alene Robertson (National Tour of Annie, Mame at Drury Lane Theatre, and The Full Monty and Hello, Dolly! at Marriott Theatre) as 'Martha Gillette.' THE GAME'S AFOOT is written by Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, The Fox on the Fairway, Crazy for You, and Moon Over Buffalo) and directed by Drury Lane Theatre Artistic Director William Osetek (Young Frankenstein and next to normal at Drury Lane Theatre).
