A TIME TO KILL to Kick Off 'Talkback Tuesdays' Series with Attorney Benjamin Brafman, 11/5

Producers of the new Broadway play A Time to Kill, based on John Grisham's best-selling novel of the same name, announced today that high-profile defense attorney Benjamin Brafman will lead a post-show conversation with members of the cast following the Tuesday, November 5th performance. The group will discuss the current state of the justice system as it relates to the narrative of A Time to Kill. The audience of that evening's performance will be invited to stay and participate in the dialogue, which is sure to generate a variety of reactions. A Time to Kill opened on Broadway on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street). This new Broadway play holds the distinction of being the first-ever John Grisham property to be adapted for the stage. Ethan McSweeny directs. Sebastian Arcelus, Chike Johnson, Patrick Page, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, Emmy Award winner Tom Skerritt, Fred Dalton Thompson, John Douglas Thompson, and Ashley Williams plus Jeffrey M. Desert Theatre League Honors Coyote StageWorks with a Dozen Desert Star Awards

The Desert Theatre League presented Coyote StageWorks a total of twelve Desert Star Awards at the Desert Theatre League's annual celebration and awards ceremony on October 14. The Desert Star Awards are presented each year by the Desert Theatre League to recognize excellence in the local theatre community. Almost thirty local theatre companies compete for the awards, which are given in the categories of Ballet, Youth Theatre, Drama, Musical/Opera/Pageant, Revue/Cabaret, Comedy, Staged Reading, One Acts, and Technical Awards. Founded in 1987, the Desert Theatre League has been representing the interests of the Coachella Valley's theatre community for twenty five years. The Annual Desert Star Awards celebration and awards ceremony first took place in 1988. (more...)

The Illusion Theater presents the recent off-Broadway production of NAKED DARROW April 3-12 at the downtown Minneapolis theater, located on the eighth floor of The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, 528 Hennepin Ave. This solo piece, written and performed by Gary Anderson, is a provocative look at the legendary lawyer who took on racism, social injustice and the death penalty in the first decades of the 1900s. Old Vic Announces 2014-15 Season; Kevin Spacey to Return to the Stage in CLARENCE DARROW

The Old Vic today announced its programme for Summer/Autumn 2014. The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. The plays will be performed in the round, a transformation of The Old Vic's auditorium first seen for the award-winning 2008 production of The Norman Conquests. Stage West to Open New Studio Space

Stage West has announced the opening of a second performance space. The new Stage West Studio Theatre is located within the space which houses the group's offices and rehearsal hall, at 823 W. Vickery Blvd., and is a three-sided thrust stage, with seating for 61 patrons. The additional performance space will allow Stage West to offer its audiences productions which might not fit into its regular season, and could also be of use in its educational programs. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Max & Louie Productions Powerful and Disturbing Presentation of THRILL ME: THE LEOPOLD AND LOEB STORY

The story of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb has been written about and filmed on a few separate occasions, most notably with Alfred Hitchcock's version of Patrick Hamilton's play, Rope (shot in single film reel length takes as an added novelty), and with Meyer Levin's more fictionalized account Compulsion, which was also made into a noteworthy movie. Of course, there were many others that co-opted the ideas present in their terrible tale, but playwright/composer Stephen Dolginoff's THRILL ME: THE LEOPOLD AND LOEB STORY, just may be the most potent, presenting their saga as a 'pocket musical' that's harrowing, haunting and disturbing all at the same time. Initial casting for Arthur Miller's The Crucible is announced. Richard Armitage, Anna Madeley and Samantha Colley are to play John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams in Ya?l Farber's new production at The Old Vic, with previews from Tuesday 24 June.
