Emerging Artists Theatre, the company that produced last season's hit Penny Penniworth, presents the Off-Broadway premiere of The Sensational Josephine Baker, a rich, comedic, moving musical portrait of the unique iconic Jazz Age legend, Josephine Baker. Preview performances began Tuesday, September 7th, opening night will be Tuesday, September 14 and the play will run through Sunday, October 3rd at TADA Theatre, 15 West 28th Street, 2nd floor, between Broadway and 5th Avenue. Show times are: Tuesday and Friday at 7pm; Wednesday and Sunday at 2pm; and Saturday at 5pm and 9pm. Whoopi Goldberg will rejoin the cast of the hit musical comedy SISTER ACT in October to complete her run as Mother Superior. She will perform the role on the evening of Friday 22 October, at two shows on Saturday 23 October and at two shows on Monday 25 October. Whoopi's previous run, her West End debut, was a huge critical success and saw fans camping overnight at the box office and daily queues around the block at the London Palladium for tickets. During Whoopi's run Sister Act also broke the record for the highest weekly gross of any musical ever at the Palladium. She was unable to complete that run, which was to end on August 31, when she had to return to the USA due to a family emergency. (more...)

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has announced that Zach Braff, Bobby Cannavale, Sutton Foster, and Ari Graynor will co-star in the world premiere comedy TRUST, written by Paul Weitz, directed by Peter DuBois. Mr. Weitz returns to Second Stage Theatre, where his plays Privilege and Show People premiered in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Directed by Peter DuBois, who staged Second Stage's acclaimed production of Becky Shaw, TRUST will begin previews on Friday, July 23 at Second Stage Theatre (305 West 43rd street) and officially open on Thursday, August 12. Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is thrilled to announce the 45 Houston area schools competing in the ninth annual Tommy Tune Awards. Developed by TUTS in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards honor musical theatre excellence at the high school level, celebrating outstanding student achievement in 15 categories. During the 2010-2011 school year, a team of Houston-based theatre professionals will evaluate the participating high school productions and announce the winners at a Tony Awards-style ceremony to be held April 20, 2011 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The event will feature spotlight numbers from the nominated shows, as well as award presentations to the performers, directors, choreographers, orchestras and designers, who have defined excellence throughout 2010 - 2011. The Best Leading Actor and Actress will go on to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City this coming June. (more...)

Theyre_playing_Sour_Song_20010101 Broadway darling Sutton Foster and Seth Rudetsky are teaming up on a concert version of They're Playing Our Song to benefit The Actor's Fund on August 30 at the Gerald W. Emerging Artists Theatre, the company that produced last season's hit Penny Penniworth, presents the Off-Broadway premiere of The Sensational Josephine Baker, a rich, comedic, moving musical portrait of the unique iconic Jazz Age legend, Josephine Baker. Preview performances begin Tuesday, September 7th, opening night will be Tuesday, September 14 and the play will run through Sunday, October 3rd at TADA Theatre, 15 West 28th Street, 2nd floor, between Broadway and 5th Avenue. Show times are: Tuesday and Friday at 7pm; Wednesday and Sunday at 2pm; and Saturday at 5pm and 9pm. I Do!,' the charming and touching musical about marriage, three extra performances have been added, Thursday through Saturday, September 2 - 4, evenings at 8 p.m. The tuneful journey through the ups and downs of a 50-year marriage stars Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin and Drama Desk Award nominee Lewis Cleale.
