Patrons will thrill to music from the Big Band Era all the way to Funk and Rock classics of the 70s and 80s at Aurora Swing Nights: Funktacular! concert on Saturday, June 21 at 8:00pm. Now a summertime tradition, this upbeat edition of the popular Swing Night concert series will feature the Metro Jazz Club performing a memorable array of rock 'n roll songs.

Fox Valley Repertory takes an upbeat trip down memory lane this summer as they continue their 2014 theater series celebrating the lives and music of the famed Andrews Sisters in Sisters of Swing. This nostalgic musical, written by Beth Gilleland and Bob Beverage, is directed by Fox Valley Rep Artistic Director and Wheaton native John Gawlik with music direction by Jeffrey Poindexter and choreography by Christie Kerr of Lombard. Performances will take place at the Pheasant Run Resort Mainstage June 5 - July 27, 2014 (4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL; box office 630-584-6342).

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents Baseball Swing with the All Star Baseball Jazz Band, co-commissioned and co-produced with the Baseball Music Project and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. With a cast featuring Terron Brooks, Angela Pupello, Terri White, Fred Willard and Adrian Zmed, Baseball Swing, a part of the Jack Elliott Family Concert Series, will have four performances only April 4-6, 2014, in the Bram Goldsmith Theater.

The next production in Town Hall Arts Center's 2013-2014 Season will be Swing!, Original concept by Paul Kelly, original direction and choreography by Lynne Taylor ' Corbett. Swing! is directed by Matthew D. Peters, most recently seen choreographing Peter Pan for PACE and Home for the Holidays at Lone Tree Arts Center, Matthew makes his directorial debut at Town Hall Arts Center.

The George Gee Swing Orchestra Takes a Swing at Kickstarter

As New York City bandleader George Gee says, “Swing Makes You Happy” and that's the title of the George Gee Swing Orchestra's Kickstarter campaign to fund a double CD of new music. The campaign runs through December 12th on Kickstarter.com. When their goal is reached the recording process begins in New York and continues until the final CD is ready in May of 2014. Says Gee “The GGSO is making this CD to honor the swingin' BIG BAND sound and its creators, as well as give voice to modern, yet eminently danceable compositions featuring the arrangements and original writing by the band's highly-regarded Music Director and Trombonist David Gibson.” The band aims to record their new music and continue the tradition of swingin' big bands.
