Last night, April 8th, producer Marty Richards' feast of friends and loved ones gathered in celebration of his extremely accomplished life at The Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street) where they were entertained by a star-studded retrospective of show-stopping numbers from Mr. Richards' acclaimed Broadway musicals including Chicago, On The Twentieth Century, The Life, Grand Hotel, Sweeney Todd, La Cage Aux Folles, Sweet Smell Of Success, The Will Rogers Follies and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life. Original Broadway cast member Jared Gertner will star as Elder Cunningham in the First National Tour of THE BOOK OF MORMON, launching in Denver from August 14-September 2 at The Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Gertner will join previously announced Gavin Creel as Elder Price. Samantha Marie Ware joins as Nabulungi, as well as Grey Henson as Elder McKinley and Kevin Mambo as Mafala Hatimbi. (more...)

PASSION's Melissa Errico on Vocal Rest; Cast Album Recording Delayed

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the Classic Stage Company's production of Passion has delayed the recording of it's upcoming cast album, because Melissa Errico, who plays Clara in the show, is out on vocal rest. Errico has been out of the show since March 21 and the cast will not head to the recoding studio until she has fully recovered. In the mentime, Amy Justman has been filling in for Errico on stage. Brooke Shields to Direct CHICAGO at Hollywood Bowl; Runs 7/26-28

Brooke Shields has been announced as the director of the Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of CHICAGO, which holds the record as the third longest running show in Broadway history. Rob Fisher has also been announced as the conductor of the production. Shields starred in CHICAGO both on Broadway and in London's West End and this marks her directing debut. Fisher's association with the show began with the 1996 Broadway revival and he continues to be supervising music director of CHICAGO productions around the globe. (more...)

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present the very first UKE NIGHT! tonight, April 15 at 7pm, featuring Ukulele performances by Broadway performers Marc Kudisch, Howard McGillin, Nancy Anderson, Clarke Thorell, Lauren Molina, Jason Poole and others. The evening will be hosted by Jeffry Denman. Proceeds will go towards The Daniel Barden Family Fund. Daniel was one of the children lost in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. (more...)

Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, On Your Toes will have guest music direction by Encores! founding music director Rob Fisher and will play seven performances, from May 8 - 12 at New York City Center, W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues). The "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" ballet, originally choreographed by George Balanchine, will be staged by Susan Pilarre, who served as a Ballet Mistress of the show's 1983 Broadway Revival. (more...)

Songwriter David Friedman Headlines Benefit Show for the Concerts at City Greens at the Laurie Beechman, 4/23

The Concerts for City Greens may be a Spring and Summer music extravaganza held in the lovely early evening air of Manhattan's East Side, but Broadway actress and cabaret headliner Raissa Katona Bennett, who is the concert series' founder and producer, is launching the 2013 season indoors-with a gala benefit concert featuring a star-studded lineup of performers, including quadruple-platinum songwriter and Today Show regular David Friedman as a special guest performer (with Bennett in photo, left). A celebratory retrospective of the program's first five seasons will be staged at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, 407 West 42nd Street, on Tuesday April 23 at 7pm. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Orlando Shakespeare's TITUS ANDRONICUS is a Bloody Good Time

At first impression the show seems gratuitously violent, but apparently revenge killings were a way of life during Shakespeare's time. Despite the blood and gore, TITUS ANDRONICUS became Shakespeare's most popular play. It is not recommended for the squeamish as buckets of stage blood is thrown about the stage along with chopped off body parts. (more...)
