2016 marks the centenary of the year Eugene O'Neill began writing ground-breaking plays in Provincetown, considered the birthplace of modern American theater. This year, the 11th Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater (TW Fest) will offer new approaches to staging O'Neill from the perspective of Tennessee Williams' genre-busting dramas.

For their first production in 2016, Seven Siblings Theatre will present Picasso at the Lapin Agile, a surreal comedy written by legendary comic/actor/screenwriter, Steve Martin. Set in a bar in 1904 Paris, Picasso at the Lapin Agile imagines a meeting of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in their youth, just before they each made their greatest contributions to society. One year later, Einstein publishes his Special Theory of Relativity, and in 1907, Picasso would go on to paint Les D'emoiselles D'Avignon. This irreverent comedy is both hilarious and poignant as the regulars and bar staff chime in on subjects such as love, art, the nature of genius, and what the future might hold.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Jewish Museum will present the 25th annual New York Jewish Film Festival (NYJFF) at the Film Society's Walter Reade Theater and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, today, January 13-26, 2016.

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Known as an existential comedy, PICASSO AT LAPIN AGILE is Steve Martin's tongue-and-cheek poke at the deep philosophical pieces penned by French playwrights like Jean Paul Sartre or Eugene Ionesco. In this Victor Hugo a go-go knee-slapper, Martin creates an alternative universe where famed theoretical physicist Albert Einstein and famed theoretical romantic and painter Pablo Picasso meet at the Parisian bar Lapin Agile and wax philosophies, ponder existence, and, with help of a time-traveling 'country boy', brave the new 20th century world and the future beyond.
