Culture Project's Women Center Stage 2012 Festival to Present the World Premiere of SWELL, 3/15-4/6

Culture Project (Allan Buchman, Artistic Director) will present Women Center Stage 2012 Festival beginning March 8 and continuing through April 7 at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton Street at East Houston Street). A highlight of the Festival will be Swell, a theatrical adaptation of the graphic novel adapted by Juliacks, Kathleen Amshoff, and the company, having its World Premiere. The production will combine the novel's narrative with sound, video, architecture, and performance art, resulting in a 'spectacular, character-driven reflection of loss.' (more...)

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning pianist Eddie Palmieri returns to the Blue Note from March 13 - 18 to celebrate his 75th birthday. Joining Palmieri will be trumpeter Brian Lynch, saxophonist Donald Harrison, trombonist Conrad Herwig, bassist Luques Curtis, drummer Jose Claussell and percussionists Vincente "Little Johnny" Rivero and Orlando Vega. Palmieri, who will play in Australia for a few days before heading back to New York for the Blue Note run, has been touring for over 50 years, starting with his first gig in Eddie Forrester's Orchestra. Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer, and recording artist Leslie Uggams (On Golden Pond, King Headley II, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, Jerry's Girls, Hallelujah, Baby!) launched her new CD Uptown Downtown "Live at Barnes & Noble" before a standing room only crowd on Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Ms. Uggams sang eight selections from her cast album, a two-CD set which contains 24 songs from her musical autobiography Uptown Downtown. She was accompanied by Don Rebic on piano, Steve Bargonetti on guitar, and Ray Kilday on bass. Following the performance Uggams also signed copies of her CD for her many fans. (more...)
