The producers of THE BOOK OF MORMON, which opened Thursday night at London's Prince of Wales Theatre, announced that the show set a record for the biggest single day of sales in West End and Broadway history. Between 10:00 AM and Midnight on Friday, March 22, the day after opening, £2,107,972 ($3,210,019) was taken in ticket sales. 150,000 additional tickets have been made available and the show is now booking until January 11, 2014. Brahms two piano concertos, written some twenty years apart (as their opus numbers 15 and 83 display) were not referred to as concertos at all at the time of their premiers but rather as 'symphonies with piano obligato,' and it's easy to see why. They both feature some ravishing string parts that practically almost suggest concertos of their own and require almost super-human virtuosity and above all stamina (the 2nd in particular) on the part of the soloist. Today in 2000, Aida opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1852 performances. Aida is a musical with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang. Aida was nominated for five Tony Awards and won four Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Musical Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Aida was also named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. The First National tour was nominated for Nine National Broadway Theatre awards (now 'Touring Broadway Awards') and won five awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Now celebrating its 35th year, the annual Museum Mile Festival (www.museummilefestival.org) takes place rain or shine on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Over 1.5 million people have taken part in this annual celebration since its inception. Festival attendees can walk the Mile between 82nd Street and 105th Street while visiting Nine of New York City's finest cultural institutions, which are open free to the public throughout the evening. Visitors can also walk to 110th Street where they will be greeted by music and outdoor art activities at the site of Museum Mile's newest museum, the Museum for African Art. Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 15th Anniversary Season with the return of Lonesome Traveler, a musical event that takes audiences on a journey down the rivers and streams of American Folk Music -- from the hills of Appalachia to the nightclubs of San Francisco and New York; from the 1920s to the 1960s. Written and directed by Rubicon's Artistic Director James O'Neil, with Musical Direction by Trevor Wheetman, Lonesome Traveler begins April 24 and continues through May 19 at Rubicon Theatre in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District.
