Flora the Red Menace will run from now until November 22 at The Rising Action Theatre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Flora the Red Menace is a musical with a book by David Thompson, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The musical starred Liza Minnelli in the title role in her Broadway debut, for which she won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. This was the first collaboration between Kander and Ebb, who later wrote Broadway and Hollywood hits such as Cabaret and Chicago. (more...)

One of the potentially sublime qualities of fringe theatre productions is that they can reinforce the fact that it is not necessary to have the stage filled with epic-scale scenery or helicopters in order to present a great piece of musical theatre - provided that the piece in itself is dramatically and musically strong, the performances compelling and the direction cleverly inventive. The Town Hall, Broadway's landmark concert venue, has announced its 2010 season lineup. Headliners include Grammy Award-winning folk icon Judy Collins, Grammy Award-winning Afro-funk singer Angélique Kidjo, Tony Award-winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell, jazz singer Lizz Wright with Grammy-nominated jazz bassist Richard Bona and world music sensations Tito Paris and Lura.
