Umphress Steps In For Rose During Vassar's ON A CLEAR DAY Concert

Dench will perform her rendition of 'Send In the Clowns' from A Little Night Music, which she claims to be 'hugely exciting' but 'daunting.' The song selection for the actress was a no-brainer, as allegedly, 'On hearing Dame Judi's performance of Send In The Clowns at the National Theatre in 1995, Sondheim is said to have told the acclaimed actress: 'It's yours now.' 'Sondheim: The Birthday Concert' PBS Special Gets Nov. DVD Release

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, The New York Philharmonic's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert, which took place on March 15-16, 2010 at Avery Fisher Hall, will be broadcast on THIRTEEN'S Great Performances on PBS on Wednesday, November 24 (check local listings). WNET, Channel 13 in New York City, will air the concert at 9:30 p.m. that evening. The concert includes songs and orchestral pieces from Sondheim musical theater favorites such as Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George. Today, it has been announced that in addition to the PBS telecast, the concert will be released on DVD in November by Image Entertainment. (more...)

Atlanta Symphony Announces 2010 Symphony Songster 2010 Finalists

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Turner Classic Movies today announced the three finalists for the 'Atlanta Symphony Songster 2010' amateur vocal competition. They are: Joseph Brewer (Columbus, GA), Rebekah Dossou (Lilburn, GA), and Christina Lewis (Cincinnati, OH). Their YouTube.com video-entries are currently available on the Orchestra's website here. The three finalists will sing 'Over the Rainbow' with the Orchestra prior to the start of the The Wizard of Oz concert on Saturday, August 14, 2010 - the competition will also be streamed live on UStream.com.
