Roberts, based on the true story of Isaac Woodard, Jr., at one time the most highly decorated African-American WWII veteran whose 1946 beating and subsequent blinding by police, hours after being discharged from the US Army, ignited a heated civil rights battle in South Carolina and around the nation - with previews beginning June 11, prior to its official press opening June 17, at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) in Manhattan. The Sacramento Music Circus production of Monty Python's 'Spamalot,' opening at the Wells Fargo Pavilion on July 9, will mark a few firsts. It will be the first time a regional theatre has been given the rights to produce the Tony Award-winning best musical. It will also be the first time the musical has been produced in the round. And significantly for the region's largest arts organization, it will be the first time in its history that California Musical Theatre has hosted a regional theatre premiere. But among the firsts, there is another milestone. 'Spamalot' will be the 500th opening night for Music Circus at the corner of 15th and H Streets. (more...)

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) announced selected plays for SHORT SUBJECTS, a division for plays that run under 60 minutes. 23 plays were selected. The festival will run from July 12 - August 1, 2010. Tickets are $15-18. Little House on The Prairie's Nellie Oleson -- Alison Arngrim -- returns to NYC to Kick-Off Live Tour and Book Launch 'Confessions of a Prairie Bitch.' By popular demand, a 3rd performance had been added for comic, former child star, outspoken activist, TV Land Award winner, and author Alison Arngrim when she return to New York with 'Confessions of a Prairie Bitch.' In addition to the previously announced shows on June 17 & 19 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, another performance has been added on Friday, June 18 at 7:30pm. This series of live performances also marks the release of Arngrim's book of the same title (from HarperCollins' It Books) and the kick-off a national tour (with stops in Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston and more).
