Tony Award-winners Chita Rivera and Karen Ziemba, Norman Norman Jewison, Academy Award-winning director of the 1971 film version of Fiddler on the Roof (Irving Thalberg Award Recipient), and Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Counsul General of Israel, have joined the lineup of Raising the Roof, an all-star benefit concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene, the 50th Anniversary of iconic American musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and the 90th birthday of its Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning lyricist, Sheldon Harnick, on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at New York's The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).

It's a Broadway tradition! According to the New York Times, Fiddler on the Roof is coming back to Broadway, for the sixth time since it opened in 1964. The revival will be produced by Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, and directed by Barlett Sher, who is currently being represented on Broadway with The Bridges of Madison County. This version will be based on original conceptions and choreography by Jerome Robbins, with choreography by Hofesh Shechter.

Today in 2004, Fiddler on the Roof opened at the Minskoff Theatre, where it ran for 781 performances. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman and Other Tales) by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances.

The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances. It spawned four Broadway revivals, a successful 1971 film adaptation, and the show has enjoyed enduring international popularity. It is also a very popular choice for school and community productions.

Atop a thatched roof, is the vision of a Fiddler and then...the room becomes suddenly alive, in a grand opening, with the robust voices of over 50 peasant, villagers, singing 'TRADITION!..TRADITION!' And thus begins an enthusiastic and heartfelt rendition, of the classic American musical, 'FIDDLER on the ROOF', presented by the Live Oak Theatre Company, in Brooksville, FL.

This exciting collaboration with award winning documentarian Leigh Simons will take you behind the scenes into the rehearsals to give you an unprecedented look at what it takes to bring you freeFall's season. The film will be released as three 15-minute episodes that will be viewed online. Watch all three and you will be able to enter a contest to win a VIP Holiday Party for 10 at the theatre during our run of A Christmas Carol. The wildly successful, multi Tony Award winning musical Fiddler on the Roof first opened on Broadway in 1964 and has certainly become a staple among the local theatre community. BroadHollow's production, running through October 6th at their BayWay location, has certainly made this incarnation their own. Directed by Glen J. Beck, this cast will also play their Elmont location from October 26th through November 10th.
