Orlando Jones will play The Wiz, and Tony Award-winning actress LaChanze will play Glinda, the good witch, in the Encores! Summer Stars production of The Wiz, starring Ashanti, June 12 July 5 at New York City Center. Glinda's sister-witches will include Tichina Arnold as Evillene and Dawnn Lewis as Addaperle. Easing down the road with Ashanti's Dorothy will be Joshua Henry as the Tinman, James Monroe Iglehart as the Lion and Christian White as the Scarecrow. (more...)

The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis will produce the world premiere of Jack O?Hara and Tim Brickley?s The Zippers of Zoomerville, or 200 Laps and a Lass: a mini-mockeretta in the Frank & Katrina Basile Theatre at the Phoenix May 7 through June 6, 2009. The book and lyrics are by Jack O?Hara, and the music is by Jack O?Hara and Tim Brickley. Jack O'Hara is a Nashville (IN) based writer, musician, comedian, actor, and director. In The Zippers of Zoomerville he has written a gentle send-up of all things Indy 500 -- but also a gentle send-up of all things Gilbert & Sullivan. (more...)

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that the first preview of Craig Lucas' THE SINGING FOREST has been moved to Friday, April 10 due to the need for additional technical rehearsals. Directed by Mark Wing-Davey, THE SINGING FOREST was scheduled to begin previews on Tuesday, April 7 and open on Monday, April 27. The show will now open on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 PM. (more...)

Bristol Riverside Theatre has announced a change to its final show of the 2008-2009 season and is pleased to present an original production of the Off-Broadway smash, Altar Boyz, from May 12 through May 31. BRT's production brings to Bristol two of the play's creators - Music Director Gary Adler, who co-wrote the music and lyrics, and Director and Tony-nominated Choreographer (and Bristol native) Christopher Gattelli, who handled the original Off-Broadway choreography. The Battery's Down, the hit online television series, will return for a second season on Wednesday, April 1, on YouTube featuring a slew of Broadway guest stars. Filmed in a style similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm or The Office, The Battery's Down chronicles the life of young actor Jake Wilson in New York City.
