Even though we are in the slow summer season for theatre news, show and casting announcements have been slowly trickling in so that the 2017-2018 Broadway season is beginning to come into sharper focus. The slate is filled with high-profile offerings like FROZEN and HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, exciting revivals including M. BUTTERFLY, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and MY FAIR LADY, intriguing new works like THE BAND'S VISIT and JUNK, and curious newcomers, i.e. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS and ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE.

In 1928, Ruth Snyder was executed for the murder of her husband; that same year, Sophie Treadwell wrote Machinal, inspired by Snyder's story. Now, playwright Steph Del Rosso has crafted a relentless, raucous exploration of feminism - part rock concert, part performance art - inspired by Treadwell's expressionist masterpiece. This production, created for the IDEAS Festival 2017 in San Diego and subsequently presented at Ubuntu Theater in the Bay Area, lands at JACK under the direction of rising theater-maker Will Detlefsen.

The original story was created by co-book writers Greg Garcia ('My Name is Earl') and Mike O'Malley ('Survivor's Remorse,' 'Shameless'). Playhouse Artistic Director and three-time Tony Award nominee Christopher Ashley directs, and the creative team also includes Tony Award-nominated Choreographer Kelly Devine, Scenic Designer Walt Spangler, Tony Award-winning Costume Designer Paul Tazewell, two-time Tony Award-winning Lighting Designer Howell Binkley, two-time Tony Award-winning Sound Designer Brian Ronan, Tony Award-nominee Christopher Jahnke as Music Supervisor.
