ASCAP/Grow A Show Workshop Returning to Lied Center

Following the marked success of its first American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) event in 2013, the Lied Center for Performing Arts announces the return of the ASCAP/Grow A Show New Musical Theatre Workshop Sept. 9-11, 2015. The workshop seeks new musical theatre works with the potential to be developed and produced into full-scale productions. The Lied Center is currently accepting submissions from musical theatre playwrights and composers from across the country. Submissions must be received by Friday, May 1, 2015 to be considered.
Tim Rosser, Charlie Sohn & More Receive American Theatre Wing's 2015 Jonathan Larson Grants

The American Theatre Wing announced today that the recipients of the 2015 Jonathan Larson Grants are writing team Tim Rosser (composer) & Charlie Sohne (composer) receiving $10,000, Sam Willmott (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000 and a week-long residency at the Running Deer Musical Theatre Lab, and Max Vernon (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000.

We've titled this our Broadway Doesn't Get Any Bigger Than This season, fittingly named since six of our eight new shows have been recent hits on Broadway while the other two productions are launching brand new national tours under the creative direction of some of Broadway's most accomplished writers and directors. All in all, these eight shows have garnered over 85 Tony nominations and over 30 Tony Award wins on Broadway.

Mirvish Productions announced their 2015-2016 season this morning. The 14-show season consists for new Broadway-hits, old favorites, and more! The 7-show Subscription is priced from $145.00. The 3-show Off-Mirvish Subscription is priced from $99.00. Current subscribers have the opportunity to renew their seats first, until the renewal deadline April 24, 2015. New subscribers will be accepted on a first-come basis.

Award-winning Canadian actress Chilina Kennedy, who made her Broadway debut as 'Mary Magdalene' in Jesus Christ Superstar, has nabbed the title role in Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, the smash hit musical about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter. Kennedy begins performances on March 7, 2015, succeeding Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller, who will play her final performance in Beautiful on March 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street). Las Vegas' Smith Center for the Performing Arts is an extraordinary place. It's diverse programs encompass just about all of the performing arts. The building, designed by David M. Schwartz is a Neo Art Deco design and features a 47-bell carillon housed in a 17-story carillon tower. The design, Schwartz said at the opening, was chosen to echo the design elements of Hoover Dam, located 30 miles away. It is the first performing arts center in the United States to be Gold LEED certified. After three years of planning and construction, it opened on March 10, 2012.

The Old Globe is delighted to welcome one of the true geniuses of the American theatre, Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman, who makes her long-awaited San Diego directing debut with an enchanting theatrical spectacle with live music and sumptuous visuals, The White Snake, continuing the Globe's 80th Anniversary festivities as part of the Balboa Park Centennial Celebration. The Southern California Premiere of The White Snake, written and directed by Zimmerman, will run March 21 through April 26 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run March 21 through 25. Opening night is Thursday, March 26 at 8:00 p.m.
