Maggie Pangrazio Named New Artistic Director of Bijou Performing Arts Center

The Bijou Performing Arts Center, thebijoutheatre.com, welcomes Maggie Pangrazio as Artistic Director. Pangrazio, who has an extensive theatrical background, has recently been involved in productions with The Bijou Theatre, Darien Arts Center, New Canaan Powerhouse Players, Westport Community Theatre, Curtain Call, Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Brien McMahon High School, and Bridgeport Theatre Company. She recently directed 'Dial M for Murder' at The Bijou Theatre and a production of 'Dracula' for Bridgeport Theatre Company. She acts as Director of the Kids' Theatre Program at Darien Arts Center, where she teaches theatre to students, ages 3 to 18. (more...)

Broadway star Sara Jean Ford, currently starring as Christine in Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera, joins the already stellar line up for this Sunday afternoon's concert, presented by Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY). Defying Gravity: The Music of Stephen Schwartz and Eric Whitacre at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, is the first concert collaboration between groundbreaking choral composer and Grammy winner Eric Whitacre and renowned Academy Award and Grammy-winning composer Stephen Schwartz, whose musical Wicked continues to run on Broadway after more than 10 years. Performing alongside Sara Jean Ford, who will be the soloist for Eric Whitacre's 'Fly to Paradise,' from Virtual Choir IV, is star performer Ashley Brown, the original Mary Poppins on Broadway. Eric Whitacre conducts the Distinguished Concerts Singers International- comprised of choirs from across North America as well as Italy and China- as well as Stephen Schwartz himself for select works. Sara Jean Ford was last heard with DCINY as soprano soloist for Messiah ... BWW Reviews: Local Actor, Corey Mach, Turns on Audience in FLASHDANCE at the Palace

On opening night, when Corey Mach made his first appearance on stage in 'Flashdance The Musical,' the audience, after being prepped about his entrance by Gina Vernaci, Senior Vice President of Theater Operations, greeted him with a lengthy ovation. During the curtain call, the audience exploded in vocal and physical adoration when Mach came on stage. Then, when the 2006 Strongsville High School and 2010 Baldwin-Wallace alum put on an Indian's baseball cap, the Palace Theatre literally shook with unbridled excitement. CCT YouTheatre Company to Perform Two Special Easter Productions

The weekend before Easter is going to be jam-packed with fun and amazing theatre as Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT) presents It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown and Stephen Schwartz's Godspell Jr. April 10 -13. The Easter Beagle runs Saturday, April 12 @ 11 & 3:00 and Godspell Jr. runs Thursday, April 10 at 7:00, Friday, April 11 at 7:00 and Saturday, April 12 at 7:00. There will be a special double feature matinee Sunday at 3:00 pm of both shows. Tickets are $10 per person and $8.00 for seniors and active military for individual performances, and $15 for Sunday's double feature matinee. All shows take place at Columbia Children's Theatre on the second floor of Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Drive in beautiful Forest Acres. Imagination Stage Student Conservatories & Ensemble to Present GODSPELL, STILL LIFE WITH IRIS & INTERFACE

With 40 students, 19 designers, and three directors spanning three performance groups, Imagination Stage's conservatories and ensemble take the term "recital" to a whole new level. This spring's productions, featuring students in grades 4-11, are all directed by practicing professional theatre artists who are well-respected in the DC-metro theatre scene. This year's directors include Randy Baker, co-artistic director of Rorschach Theatre, Dawn Naser, professor at Howard University's College of Arts and Sciences, and Katie Keddell, arts administrator for Young Audiences/Arts for Learning. Students will showcase their talents in three exciting productions including the classic musical Godspell; a profound play for young audiences entitled Still Life With Iris; and the world premiere of Interface, conceptualized by the students themselves.
