In 2012, Phyllida Lloyd's all-female production of Julius Caesar at the Donmar Warehouse placed the play in a women's prison. It stunned audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and challenged the idea of 'who owns Shakespeare?' In one of the schools workshops around the production, teachers heard one of their students, a girl, speak in public for the first time. It couldn't end there.

Word for Word presents '36 Stories by Sam Shepard' arranged for the stage and directed by Amy Kossow opening with a press night on Saturday May 24 8pm, running through June 22 (previews May 21-23) at Z Space's second venue, Z Below, at 470 Florida Street. Last year the Magic Theatre spearheaded a multi-theater celebration of Shepard's 70th birthday when they opened their season with Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Buried Child.' Other companies participating in the celebration have been Crowded Fire, American Conservatory Theater in collaboration with Intersection for the Arts/Campo Santo and Word for Word.

Called 'eloquent...elegant and searing' by LA Weekly, NO-NO BOY will run from today, May 14-18, 2014 at the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street), with official opening on May 15 at 7:30PM.

Best-Selling Author, Joe McGinniss, Dies at 71

Joe McGinniss, Sr., American author known for his best-selling The Selling of the President 1968 which described the marketing of then-presidential candidate Richard Nixon, has died at the age of 71. He authored eleven works, including his last bookwas The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, an account of Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska who was the unsuccessful 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee.

Gustavo Dudamel to Conduct NY Philharmonic in Vivier and Bruckner, 3/27-29

Gustavo Dudamel will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Vivier's Orion and Bruckner's Symphony No. 9, Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday March 29 at 8:00 p.m. The program will be presented without intermission to support the connection between the two works.

Transport Group, the Drama Desk and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced that Almost, Maine, written by John Cariani and directed by Jack Cummings III, and I Remember Mama, written by John Van Druten and directed by Mr. Cummings, will comprise the company's 2013-14 season. Both productions will take place at the Gym at Judson, 243 Thompson Street, where Transport Group will now be in residency.
