Lexisnexis India Launches IT'S RAINING BLACK!Lexisnexis India Launches IT'S RAINING BLACK!
by BWW News Desk - May 26, 2015

LexisNexis India, a leading publisher of legal, tax, academic and test-prep books launched a new book on Black Money titled 'It's Raining Black! Chronicles of Black Money, Tax Havens & Policy Response.' The book has been authored by Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Founder Editor and CEO, taxindiaonline.com (TIOL), a globally reputed taxation and trade portal. The event was held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi and was attended by eminent jurists, bureaucrats, administrators, and many other distinguished guests and professionals from the fields of Law, Tax and Media. Mohan Ramaswamy, Managing Director, LexisNexis India said, 'Publishing this book on Black Money - a topic of national significance is a part of our continuous endeavor to improve transparency and advance the rule of law through our works and solutions that make professionals become more efficient, drive debates and discussions and fuel intelligent thoughts and action.' Chief Guest Mr. Justice MB Shah, former Judge Supreme Court of India and Chairman SIT on Black Money spoke about the strong linkage between corruption and black money and the need for enactment and enforcement of law to curb the same. Guest of Honour Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Vice Chairman SIT on black money also mentioned about the need to have zero tolerance against corruption and to work towards getting the legitimate dues for the betterment of society. The author of the book, Shailendra Kumar, spoke about the reasons for writing this book on black money explaining in detail the various sources of black money. He said, 'This book is an outcome of seven years of journey that I undertook in deciphering several aspects of black money at different points of time. The book ties two extreme ends. On one end lies the evil of corruption, the basis of black money and on the other end is the fortress of tax havens, bank secrecy laws and lack of cooperation from international jurisdictions.' The book reveals how the relationship between corruption and black money has been institutionalized by vested interests of key stake-holders and beneficiaries. The book also highlights the need for judicial intervention in combating the issue of black money. In the backdrop of several ground realities, the book presents the much talked about The Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Bill, 2015 in a different dimension and raises pertinent questions for serious contemplation by the Government. by Alix Cohen - May 22, 2015

Stacy Sullivan is a warm and amusing storyteller with an entertaining family history. The first six numbers of her new Metropolitan Room show on Thursday night, Since You Asked (after the Judy Collins song), are bridged by tales of her parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and her upbringing in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, five of these songs have only the most tenuous relationship to material that follows, diminishing reception with thoughts of--Where's the connection? What's she trying to say? ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Arica Hilton is a Chicago based multi-media artist and poet. Born in Turkey, many of her collaborations are with international artists. Much like the Luminists, the poetic art movement that captured light as it moved across the American Landscape, Hilton's works are inspired by the European Romanticists, who depicted cool waterscapes reflecting nuanced skies. Hilton's paintings and installations are intricately woven with her poetry and three-dimensional materials, which transports them to the present while still capturing a timeless quality that is ever present in her works. Hilton is co-owner of the Hilton/Asmus Contemporary Gallery. Until recently, she was the president of the board of the Poetry Center of Chicago. Her book LUMINISIM REVISITED will be released in May 2015. (more...)
