Seattle Attorney Christopher Davis realized that many of the injured victims calling his office had been involved in a collision with a semi-truck or other commercial vehicle. Most had waited months or even years after their accident to call in, believing that it was wise to prioritize recovering from their often catastrophic injuries before pursuing a legal case. But that delay meant that trucking companies had more time to prepare their case-and that victims who should entitled to compensation were at a serious disadvantage. (more...)

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of Miss You Like Hell, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful), music and lyrics by acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin McKeown, directed by Lear deBessonet (Public Theatre's The Odyssey) and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home). Commissioned by the Playhouse and developed during the 2016 DNA New Work Series, the production has been extended by one week, now running October 25 - December 4 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. 4th Annual Telluride Mountainfilm Festival on Tour Next Weekend

Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour, the touring arm of Telluride Mountainfilm, makes its fourth annual stop at the Plaza Atlanta Theatre next weekend. Year-round and worldwide, Telluride Mountainfilm takes a selection of its festival films on the road and the Atlanta stop,Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour ATL (TMF-ATL), is August 25, 26 and 27 at The Plaza Atlanta Theatre. At this year's festival, festival officials will announce the inaugural winner of the scholarship program that will benefit local, emerging filmmakers. Because of demand, the festival has added a Thursday night screening, to spotlight a specific film. There will be a full panel talkback after that screening (details below). The festival will host screenings Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7:30pm. On Friday morning, there is a Kidz Kino event for area school children supported by the Alliance Theatre Educational Outreach Team. William Lynwood Montell Releasing Six New Books

vWilliam Lynwood Montell taught in the folk studies program at Western Kentucky University from 1969 to 1999. He graduated from WKU in 1960, and received an M.A. and Ph.D. from Indiana University. In addition to WKU, he taught at Campbellsville College and briefly at UCLA and the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of twenty-two books, including Singing the Glory Down: Amateur Gospel Music in South Central Kentucky, 1900-1990; Killings: Folk Justice in the Upper South; and Ghosts across Kentucky.
