The Actors' Gang presents the U.S. Premiere of HARLEQUINO: ON TO FREEDOM

The Actors' Gang's new musical production of Harlequino: On to Freedom will have its U.S. Premiere in March, as part of the theater's 2017 Spring Season of Justice. Written and directed by Tim Robbins, the new musical combines Commedia dell'Arte, Shakespearean tragedy, live music and sophisticated comedy to produce a dialectic on the meaning of freedom.  The musical had its European Premiere at the Spoleto Festival, in Italy, and it subsequently toured to Shanghai and Beijing where it was censored by government officials.  Harlequino: On to Freedom begins previews Thursday, March 16, opens onSaturday, March 18 and runs through May 6, 2017, at The Actors' Gang Theatre, in Culver City.  (more...)

Marin Theatre Company Announces 2017-18 Main Stage Season

Enchantment abounds as the season continues with the Bay Area Premiere of Marc Norman, Tom Stoppard and Lee Hall's effervescent romance, Shakespeare in Love, coming to MTC this holiday season. In the Elizabethan era, when women are forbidden to become actors, what's a stage-struck lady to do? Lady Viola de Lesseps adores plays, especially those by a young writer named Will Shakespeare, but can only look on longingly as men and boys perform them. Will, meanwhile, has his own struggles: his inspiration fled, his debts and unwritten commissions piling up…until he meets an unknown young player named Thomas Kent, who speaks his words as he's always dreamed they'd be spoken, and a beautiful woman named Viola, who could be just the muse he needs. Under the direction of MTC artistic director Jasson Minadakis, this stage adaptation of the beloved film finds its true essence: a love letter to the power of theatre and the imagination. (more...)

An epic romance retrieves from oblivion the lost story of the Holocaust of Libyan Jews in 'Benghazi Bergen-Belsen,' a play by Lahav Timor that is inspired by the Brenner Prize-winning 2016 novel of the same name by Yossi Sucary, the first book about Jews in World War II Libya. The play is translated from Hebrew by Inbal Timor and directed by Michal Gamily. In this week's Valentine's Day themed episode, a mysterious man tries to seduce Kara, Winn makes a new alien lady friend, and Maggie and Alex have a misunderstanding. I thought that this was one of the best uses of a guest star I've ever seen on a show and one of the best episodes of Supergirl all season. (more...)

Tough detective Gus MacFadyan, hates drugs, is straight-laced and is happily married (he thinks), with two children. He is shocked when his wife announces she wants them to take part in an experiment, proposed by a marriage counselor supposedly to alleviate marriage boredom, which involves partner sharing. When he meets the beautiful therapist, he rethinks his attitude. Things get messy when he discovers the identity of a drug dealing king pin he is chasing down, and violent murder is plotted.
