Kat Ramsburg to Star in 5th Avenue Theatre's HAIRSPRAY; Full Cast Announced!

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced complete casting for Hairspray in Concert, featuring some of Seattle's favorite musical theatre stars and the powerful voices of the 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hairspray's 2002 Broadway debut, this unique concert event will play for six very special performances of glorious and irreverent John Waters-inspired wackiness (Friday-Sunday, June 20-23). In 2002, Hairspray was The 5th Avenue Theatre's first world premiere musical to head for Broadway where it won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and launched The 5th's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now the smash hit musical comes home, as audiences have never seen it before. (more...)

There are a handful of musicals that define Broadway- consistently good talent, amazing sets and costumes, scores that leave you humming their tunes for days, and themes so universally appealing that their fans base extends from children coming to the audience for their first show up to senior citizens seeing the show for their 8th time. One of these iconic few, Stephen Schwartz's 'Wicked' played to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Ohio Theater last night, where it runs for a lengthy 3 weeks, now through June 23rd. On the anniversary of its first green girl, role originator Idina Menzel, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress, fans coming to the show expecting an equally phenomenal touring cast would not be disappointed last night. THE WIZARD OF OZ to Kick Off 2013 Music Circus Season, 6/21

The timeless classic family musical The Wizard of Oz, based on the beloved 1939 film starring Judy Garland, kicks off the 2013 Music Circus season with an extended run at the Wells Fargo Pavilion from June 21 - 30. Filled with favorite songs like 'Over the Rainbow' and 'We're Off to See the Wizard,' fans of all ages will once again be delighted as they follow Dorothy, Toto, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion on an enchanting adventure along the Yellow Brick Road to Oz. The Music Circus production will be the Royal Shakespeare Company version of the musical, which was first presented at the Barbican Centre in London in 1988 and is based closely on the classic film. Two Bay Area students, Rodd Fahardi from Los Gatos High School and Myha'la Herrold from Archbishop Mitty High School, were also chosen for Outstanding Performance by an Actor and Actress in a musical to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards: 2013 JIMMY Awards, where they will perform at The Minskoff Theatre, the Broadway stage that currently houses The Lion King. Chris Isaacson Presents and Upright Cabaret have announced that Keith David will join Broadway diva and Tony Award-winner Lillias White's new show, A WOMAN ON LOVE, at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood tonight. There will be two performances only, on Mondays, June 3 and 10 at 8:30pm, with cocktail and dinner service beginning at 6:30pm. Fox Valley Repertory Performing Arts Academy is proud to announce their Youth Ensemble summer musical, The Wizard of Oz, scheduled to perform at the Pheasant Run Mainstage (4051 East Main St. St. Charles, IL 60174) on July 20, 2013 through July 28, 2013.
