Lyons Press is proud to announce the October 2016 release of Dogs Unleashed (978-1-4930-2679-1, cloth, $19.95) with compelling images from the Orvis Company archives and essays by best-selling dog writer Ken Foster. This unique book offers captivating new ways of enjoying nature through the eyes of our most trusted companions-our dogs. BWW Review: Dive into THE GULF - A Sexy and Edgy World Premiere at Signature Theatre
by Jeffrey Walker - Oct 3, 2016

Audrey Cefaly's new play THE GULF is an exciting premiere to say the least. As funny as it is powerful, as tender as it is passionate, THE GULF reveals a pair of volatile lovers whose relationship is as sharp as a Fishing knife - pointed and dangerous. As directed by Joe Calarco, the play is also a duo-de-force for the actresses who bring the love, sex and honky tonk to a small Fishing boat floating aimlessly in the Gulf of Mexico. IT is also a tour de force for two actresses: Rachel Zampelli and Maria Rizzo light up the stage with fire and gritty realism. (more...)

BWW Recap: Krysta Rodriguez, Jennifer Simard Guest on YOUNGER as Liza Saves a Bookstore
by Matt Smith - Oct 12, 2016

Liza's got it all in for herself in this week's installment (and yes, I know I say that every week, but with this show and her predicament, would you really expect anything less?) After settling everything by 'roasting marshmallows' with Josh, Liza gives him a break this week (once again, to contemplate their relationship) but also to head back to New Jersey once again. And no, she's not pickin' up any truffle butter this time 'round; she's going to cash in on a brilliant idea to save a bookstore… with less than favorable results. (Okay, yes, I know I say that every week, too, but seriously.. come on! Have you seen the show?!) Meanwhile, Kelsey heads back into the dating scene, Lauren ends up in a dating dilemma… and somewhere in there, Diana passes out. It's all ahead (or behind), so if you're intrigued…. read on, read on!! (more...)

LA Corporate Challenge is Now Open to Individual Competitors
by BWW News Desk - Oct 12, 2016

In the past, the Corporate Challenge has been only open to allowing companies to register and pay for their employees to compete in the annual games. Now, they have changed their model and are allowing individual competitors to sign up for a very small fee and still compete in as many of the thirty sporting events that they wish. The board members of the Los Angeles Corporate Challenge heard the voices of many employees who are working for companies that just don't have the budget to pay for all of their employees to participate. So to accommodate everyone, they agreed to allow registration from both. When the individual competitor signs up, he or she just has to input the company that they work for as they are still representing that company. This is a win win for all. The Los Angeles Corporate Challenge is all about health and wellness for the employee. It's not about who pays for it. The Corporate Challenge is an Olympic-type event that allows Los Angeles Area corporations to interact with each other through a variety of sporting events. One of the largest corporate games in the country, and with a successful track rate of 40 years, LACC looks forward to continued growth in the years to come. The involved competitors represent an employee base of over 150,000 Los Angeles individuals. Thousands more are spectators and several thousand more act as volunteers to assist with the games. The LA Corporate Challenge mission is to promote health, wellness, and camaraderie by presenting participants with physical endeavors designed to challenge their bodies and minds through the spirit of corporate competition. The philosophy of the LACC has always been to promote team building and employee fitness and recreation within the Los Angeles business community. No other event offers the diversity of sporting opportunities that are provided by the Los Angeles Corporate Challenge. We offer something for everyone. Recreational activities such as darts, horseshoes and Fishing are represented as well as competitive athletic events such as softball, volleyball, swimming, and running. A non-competitive walk is one of the most popular events in the LACC and gives everyone a reason to get out and be active. Some of the many benefits to the companies who participate in the Los Angeles Corporate Challenge are: it improves employee morale; it allows employees to work together as a team outside of the workplace, building friendships and stronger work relationships; it allows employees to network with employees from other Los Angeles area businesses; and most importantly it gives these participants a reason to be active and contributes to their overall well-being. We've seen it work......many employees train year round for the LACC, many have stopped smoking, dropped some excess weight, and have simply begun to lead a healthier lifestyle. We'll see everyone in February when the games begin. (more...)

LA Corporate Challenge 5K Challenges Participants While Promoting Fitness
by BWW News Desk - Oct 12, 2016

The 5K Race, one of 30 exciting sporting events of the LA Corporate Challenge, is always one that thousands look forward to and prepare for. Some people train for it because they are heavily into fast timing and pushing themselves to do better each time they run the race. Then there are some that run the race at their own leisure just for fun and exercise. The beauty behind the 5K race is that it allows both. You can actually run a 5K race without heavy training and still live a normal life the next day without your body being extremely sore. For those new to this, the 5K race is a long-distance running competition over a distance of five kilometers (3.1 miles). It is the shortest of the most common road running distances. The outcome of this race is normally a sense of mind relief knowing you were able to run or walk in such a well known race and allow your mind and body to have the exercise it needs. It's a form of training for many also who go one to compete in half and full marathons. Registrants are allowed to sign up as a company who sponsors all of it's employees or as individuals who represent the company they work for.
