To mark the centennial of the establishment of the Arms and Armor Department, Bashford Dean and the Creation of the Arms and Armor Department-an exhibition featuring some 25 rare objects and period photographs-will celebrate Dean's multifaceted career, surveying his work as a field zoologist in Japan, a professor of Vertebrate Zoology at Columbia University, and Curator of Fishes at the American Museum of Natural History, and then concentrating on his groundbreaking work as the Metropolitan Museum's first Curator of Arms and Armor. Former child star and teenage heartthrob actress/singer Renn Woods, best known for her roles as Fanta in the Emmy Award winning TV mini-series Roots, her unforgettable interpretation of "Aquarius" in Milos Forman's movie musical Hair, and as Dorothy in the first national tour of the Broadway musical hit The Wiz, has written a new stage musical, titled Sold: Renn Woods In Concert (A Play in Rhythm and Blues) adapted from her successful autobiographical one-woman show, A Diva Like Me. Earlier in the same week, Bralyn Stokes received the robe at Rhubarb Theater's Birds in Church, and Michael Holder and Josh Waldrep claimed it at Street Theatre Company's Miss Saigon in Concert. A retrospective of fifty works created by the Brooklyn-based art collective known as The Bruce High Quality Foundation, which takes its name from a fictional artist named Bruce High Quality who supposedly perished in 9/11, will be presented at the Brooklyn Museum from June 28 through September 22, 2013. The Bruce High Quality Foundation: Ode to Joy, 2001-2013 will include a wide range of work by a group whose production has included subversive and often humorous installation art, live performance, film, and social sculpture in the tradition of agit-prop. It was announced today in a story by The Star's Richard Ouzounian that Aubrey Dan was no longer involved as producer in the upcoming Prince of Broadway, and that there were not plans for future Toronto shows beyond the 2012 Season. Dancap Productions has been producing commercial theatre in Toronto since 2007, when it exploded onto the scene with a strong freshman season. Shortly thereafter the company produced the Canadian production of Jersey Boys, which ran for two years and played to over two million people. Since Jersey Boys closed Dan has faced an uphill battle, and has made the decision that 2012 will be the company's final season. (more...)

For the first presentation of Frieze New York, Galerie Lelong will showcase work by conceptual artists from Latin America, an area that has played a significant role in the gallery's exhibition program and is increasingly prominent in the contemporary art world. The booth will be open May 4-7. By showing both historical and contemporary Latin American works, the gallery hopes visitors will come away with an appreciation for the diversity of expression in the region, in addition to the singular achievements of the individual artists.
