Saturn's Moon Press Acquires New Novel by Alayne Smith
by Christina Mancuso - May 25, 2016

Alayne Smith's novel, Ellen and the Three Predictions, has been acquired by Cactus Moon Publications. The historic fiction YA details the life of eighteen-year-old Ellen Jones and the predictions of Old Luella, a seer in the small town of Marshall, Alabama. Old Luella predicts Ellen will defend the beauty, foil a dictator, and find the soldier. When Ellen reads the predictions after her mother's unexpected death, this all seems quite far-fetched. Through the political and social changes of the early 1960s, Ellen, a budding journalist, comes to terms with her role in the world, as she encounters each of Old Luella's predictions. These encounters take her through the social taboos of Callendar Plantation, Alabama, to the promise of love and a career in Miami, and finally, to a daring rescue in Castro's Cuba. The novel also contains a special insert, 'Ellen's Notebook.' The notebook reflects Ellen's journalism education at the George W. Newman College of Journalism at the University of Columbus in Miami. A former advisor to CNN, Alayne Smith grew up in Alabama, lived in Denver and Tripoli, Libya, and settled in Atlanta, Georgia in 1969. She received masters and education specialist degrees in Instructional Technology at the University of Georgia. She served as a media specialist in Gwinnett County, Georgia for eleven years. In 1989, she moved to the high school level, initiating a high school program of broadcast journalism and video production where advanced students produced a monthly video magazine. With great honor, two of her top students were awarded an Emmy in 1999. For more about Ellen and the Three Predictions, visit the author's web site at www.alaynesmith.com. Jason Kravits to Bring OFF THE TOP Back to The Duplex
by Tyler Peterson - Mar 10, 2016

An entire cabaret made up on the spot. Who does that? Actor-writer-musical improviser Jason Kravits - perhaps you've seen him on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Madam Secretary - pulls off this neat trick time after time in his hilarious and unpredictable cabaret improv, OFF the TOP, scheduled to return to The Duplex in NYC on April 11th at 7pm. In his musical high-wire act, Jason, assisted by a fearless and agile band, spontaneously creates a character, a life story and an entire evening of original songs, all based on audience suggestions. Showstoppers, character songs, trifles, segues, backstories - Jason makes it all up in real time, off the top of his nimble and slightly demented brain, to the amazement of his audience.

Nottingham Playhouse Sets ANY MEANS NECESSARY Cast
by Tyler Peterson - Jan 7, 2016

Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of Any Means Necessary by Kefi Chadwick, Nottingham Playhouse's first major production of 2016. In 2011 a major legal scandal broke as it was revealed that that an undercover police officer had for years been living amongst political activists in Nottingham. Not only had he been spying on legitimate protest groups but, in his undercover persona, he had been engaging in long term intimate relationships with individuals within. Dismissed by police as a 'rogue officer', it soon became clear that he was not alone and many undercover police had been spying on activists for decades, forming supposedly loving relationships and even fathering children with the female members of these groups. All this was fully sanctioned and funded by Special Branch. With the subsequent collapse of high profile legal cases following these revelations, in July 2015, Lord Justice Pitchford opened a public inquiry into undercover policing.
