The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) continues the celebration of its 25th anniversary by holding its 21st Simply Shakespeare reading of 'The Merry Wives of Windsor.' The participants for this rhinestone-studded cast in a down-home evenin' that will be more colorful than a clown at a rodeo include Christina Applegate, Kenneth Branagh, Faith Hill, Eric idle, Arte Johnson, Eugene Levy, Tim McGraw, William Shatner, Martin Short, Tracey Ullman and the co-chairs of the event Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, all of whom will be reading one of Shakespeare's best known and beloved comedies.

In preparation for my family's visit to Dreamworks Theatricals' MADAGASCAR LIVE, now showing at Radio City through April 24th, I rented the original film from an actual Blockbuster store. This was because I couldn't find it on-demand or instant streaming from Netflix or Amazon or even for purchase on iTunes. I couldn't even find a copy of MADAGASCAR at my local Blockbuster Express kiosk. I had to put on shoes and walk to an actual Blockbuster store where I nabbed up one of only two available copies of this apparently now classic film. Three-time Tony Award-winning scenic designer ROBIN WAGNER and esteemed costume designer LEWIS BROWN are among the 2011 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 8 at 6:30pm at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Mr. Brown was selected to receive the 2011 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design, and Tony Award-winning scenic designer Robin Wagner will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. Sadly, Mr. Brown passed away in January of 2011. His award will be accepted by his long-time colleague and friend, Albert Wolsky, who was the recipient of the 2010 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award

The New York Post reports this morning that at long last, the former Times Square Theater, which has stood vacant for nearly two decades on 42nd Street, may get a new lease on life. The 30,000 square foot space, which is located at 217 W. 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, will become what will be known as Broadway 4D, a multimedia venue which allegedly an insider describes as'a kind of Las Vegas version of Broadway past and present.'
