Variations Theatre Group's critically acclaimed production of Eric Bogosian's TALK RADIO will conclude its limited engagement tomorrow night (Saturday) at the Chain Theatre. Inspired by the 1984 murder of controversial shock jock Alan Berg, TALK RADIO is set in a Cleveland radio station over the course of Barry Champlain's two-hour broadcast as he's being scrutinized that night by producers fixated on taking the show national, and fueled as always by coffee, cocaine and Jack Daniel's. Barry's jousts with his unseen callers-ranging from a white supremacist to a woman obsessed with her garbage disposal-are interspersed with confrontations by his ex-deejay pal and his sometime girlfriend/producer. Barbara appeared in the 2007 Broadway production of TALK RADIO starring Live Schreiber, and she was also in the original cast of The Secret Garden as the housekeeper Mrs. Medlock. (more...)

Tom Stoppard's Tony Award-winning play The Real Thing, directed by Sam Gold begins preview performances on Thursday, October 2, 2014 and opens officially on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42ndStreet). Variations Theatre Group will present Eric Bogosian's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play TALK RADIO beginning September 12th, with the Opening Night set for Tuesday, September 16th at The Chain Theatre. Inspired by the 1984 murder of controversial shock jock Alan Berg, TALK RADIO is set in a Cleveland radio station over the course of Barry Champlain's two-hour broadcast as he's being scrutinized that night by producers fixated on taking the show national, and fueled as always by coffee, cocaine and Jack Daniel's. Barry's jousts with his unseen callers-ranging from a white supremacist to a woman obsessed with her garbage disposal-are interspersed with confrontations by his ex-deejay pal and his sometime girlfriend/producer. The New Group has announced today complete production dates for David Rabe's Sticks and Bones, the first production in the company's 20th Anniversary Season. Previews begin Tuesday, October 21, in advance of an Official Opening Night on Thursday, November 6.
