Actors' Theatre Grand Rapids Stages WATER BY THE SPOONFUL, Now thru 2/7

Tonight, January 29, 2015, Actors' Theatre Grand Rapids will continue its 34th season with the Pulitzer Prize winning play, Water by the Spoonful, written by Quiara Alegria Hudes. The show will be presented Thursday through Saturday at GRCC Spectrum Theater, 160 Fountain Street NE, Grand Rapids, beginning tonight, January 29, 2015 and closing on February 7, 2015. Pacific Symphony Honors Leonard Bernstein in Concert Tonight

Orange County, Calif.-Jan. 9, 2015-Composer, conductor and teacher Leonard Bernstein, one of the undeniable giants of 20th-century music, and the first American-born conductor to become a major star, becomes the focal point of Pacific Symphony's second "Music Unwound" concert this season, "For the Love of Bernstein." In 1985, a young Carl St.Clair met Bernstein as a conducting fellow at Tanglewood Music Center. A few years later in 1990, St.Clair stepped in for the ailing Maestro and conducted his "Arias and Barcarolles" during what turned out to be Bernstein's last concert. St.Clair would soon be named music director of Pacific Symphony, but the impact of Bernstein's mentoring to St.Clair has remained to this day. (more...)

The production is currently playing a pre-Broadway engagement in the Eisenhower Theater at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (David M. Rubenstein, chairman, Deborah F. Rutter, president) in Washington, D.C. Previews began on Friday, January 16. Opening night is January 29, and the production runs through February 12. Scott Weinstein makes his Marriott Theatre directorial debut, joined by Musical Director Ryan T. Nelson, with a modern spin on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. An imaginative story for all ages, THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA is a celebration of everlasting love and staying true to oneself no matter what the circumstances. For the event, Theater People welcomed back two time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (CINDERELLA, BONNIE & CLYDE) and KINKY BOOTS favorite Ellyn Marie Marsh. Laura talked about life after CINDERELLA, the roles she auditioned for but didn't get to play, starring in the upcoming CAROUSEL, raps Lin-Manuel Miranda style, and cruises hilariously through a lightening round. The performance celebrates four decades of his magnificent contributions to music. Hamlisch, who wrote timeless music for both Broadway and film, won three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, three Golden Globes, and a Tony in his lifetime. Continuing its 30th anniversary season, Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director) presents the latest Ives and Rando collaboration with producing partners Jamie deRoy and Barry Feirstein. INSIDE OUT to Play Grove Theatre Center, 2/12-3/22

The critically acclaimed New York, Off-Broadway hit musical Inside Out will celebrate its 20-year anniversary at the Grove Theatre Center in Burbank, CA February 12th - March 22nd, it was announced today by Kritzerland Entertainment and PlayWorks Music. Veteran TV/Film/Theatre/Actor/ Author/Performer/Playwright and CEO of Kritzerland Records Bruce Kimmel has been set to direct the musical by Doug Haverty (book and lyrics) and Adryan Russ (lyrics and music). An all-star female ensemble/cast of six features Sandy Bainum, Cynthia Ferrer, Stephanie Fredricks, Dana Meller, Leslie Stevens and Adrienne Visnic. Preview performances are February 12th and 13th with the show's official opening scheduled for February 14th. (more...)
