Tony Yazbeck, nominated for a 2015 Tony Award for his leading role in the musical-comedy love letter to New York City On the Town, will reprise the role of 'Gabey' in select cities on the 2016-2017 national tour.  On the Town is nominated for four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance By a Leading Actor in a Musical (Tony Yazbeck), Best Choreography (Joshua Bergasse), and Best Direction of a Musical (John Rando). The 71st Annual Theatre World Awards - the oldest award given for a debut theatre performance on or off-Broadway - will be held Monday, June 1, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. at Broadway's Lyric Theatre (213 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036). The winners of this year's Theatre World Awards will be announced today, May 5. The 2015 John Willis Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to Chita Rivera. (more...)

Author and musical theater historian Jennifer Ashley Tepper will be joined by Broadway favorites Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town), Amanda Green (Hands On A Hardbody), and Jim Walton (On The Twentieth Century) who will be reading excerpts from The Untold Stories of Broadway Volume 2, on Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 - 6:30PM.  The Tony Awards Pop-Up Shop is located at the Paramount Hotel and is open daily to visitors. The Theatre People Podcast Welcomes Musical Legend Elaine Paige

On Monday, May 4, Theater People podcast welcomes 'The First Lady of British Musical Theater,' Olivier Award-winner Elaine Paige. For the episode, Paige discusses her farewell tour, and what exactly she means by 'farewell.' She also talks about the upcoming theatrical release of her recent concert which was filmed at Royal Albert Hall in London. Paige, perhaps best know for originating the roles of Eva Peron in EVITA and Grizabella in CATS, shares her remembrances of how those roles came to her and how they changed her life and career. Paige made her Broadway debut in 1995 as Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BOULEVARD Sunset Boulevard. She returned to Broadway in the critically acclaimed and Tony award winning 2012 revival of FOLLIES. In the role of Carlotta Campion, Paige received terrific notices for her performance of the showstopping song 'I'm Still Here.' My wife and I decided not to watch this morning so we got up 7:30, grabbed some coffee and we went to a park nearby and decided to talk and mediate and appreciate the things that have happened this year. I had a really good year got married, go the show - it's been the best year of my life so it really didn't matter happy or sad. So, I gave her my phone when it started to ring and she started screaming and crying and I started to jump around like an idiot. I really was in shock. We had a couple walk by us and they must have assumed we just found out we were pregnant or just got engaged i just hugged and kissed my wife for being the most amazing rock. (more...)
