Photo Flash: RAISED IN CAPTIVITY At The Shell Theater
by Gabrielle Sierra - Jan 22, 2009

As part of its 2008-2009 Season of Secrets, the Red Fern Theatre Company will present Nicky Silver's Raised in Captivity from January 29 - February 15, 2008 at the Shell Theatre in the Times Square Arts Building. Dominic D'Andrea directs this play, which the New York Times has called an 'archly absurdist comedy' with 'depth of feeling' in its 1995 incarnation. The current climate of uncertainty and angst demands the instant self-analysis provided by The Red Fern Theatre Company's presentation of Raised in Captivity, a dark comedy about twin siblings who deal with guilt, redemption, self punishment, and revealed secrets following their mother's untimely death. Amidst the seemingly unending economic crisis, this production acts as a satiric mirror for the dysfunction, alienation and depths of depravity possible in a sometimes cold society. The Red Fern Theatre will partner with Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow as part of its ongoing mission to produce socially conscious plays while partnering with philanthropies whose missions assist those affected by the issues addressed in the play. Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow helps disadvantaged youth and adults recognize their own self-worth, and advance towards self-sufficiency and financial security through job training, academic reinforcement, improved life skills, job placement, and support services. More information about the organization can be found at http://www.obtjobs.org. Raised in Captivity will run from January 29th through February 15th. Show times are Thursday - Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm at the Shell Theatre in the Times Square Arts Building at 300 West 43rd Street at Eight Avenue. Tickets are $18. To order, please visit https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/72892 or call 212-352-3101. Tickets are available at the box office 20 minutes prior to the show for cash only.
