Following enthusiastic reviews, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) will extend THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by Tina Landau and Robert O'Hara, through Sunday, December 20. THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS began previews October 21 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, December 13.

The Shakespeare Society (Michael Sexton, Artistic Director) will present Marlowe vs. Shakespeare: Rivalry, Imitation, and Influence, featuring John Douglas Thompson who plays the title role in the acclaimed Irish Rep revival of The Emperor Jones in a performance that was called "wondrous" by Ben Brantley in The New York Times; Matthew Rauch who currently stars in Still Life at MCC; and Columbia professor James Shapiro, author of the acclaimed book 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, on Monday, November 9 at 7:00pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, East 68 Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues.

The Fall theatre season in the DC area is in full bloom. As the leaves are turning, there is a colorful group of shows opening this month. There are so many, so where do I begin? Here are shows that I am looking forward to seeing, and remember I am a musical theatre lover who likes to sprinkle in a play or two - here and there - so don't get mad if I don't choose one of the plays you are looking forward to seeing. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS PART 1 & PART 2. McCraney, one of America's most acclaimed young writers, returns to The Public to complete his trilogy following the success of The Brothers Size in 2007. Tina Landau will direct In The Red and Brown Water and Robert O'Hara will direct The Brothers Size and Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet.

Executive Producer Louis G. Spisto today announced the appointment of Adrian Noble as Artistic Director of The Old Globe's 2010 Shakespeare Festival celebrating the theater's 75th anniversary season. One of the theater's most respected and sought-after directors, Noble will oversee the Festival and direct two of the three productions presented in repertory. Noble succeeds Resident Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak who will leave his post in September to pursue independent directing opportunities. The annual festival will run from June 12 through September 26, 2010.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that Things of Dry Hours, written by Naomi Wallace and directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, will begin performances Friday, May 22, at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery. Opening night is scheduled for Monday, June 8 at 7:00pm. The production will run through Sunday, June 28.

Two-time Tony Award winners NATHAN LANE (The Producers, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) and BEBE NEUWIRTH (Chicago, Sweet Charity) will star as Gomez and Morticia in THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a new musical based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams. Produced by Stuart Oken, Roy Furman, Michael Leavitt and Five Cent Productions, by special arrangement with Elephant Eye Theatrical, THE ADDAMS FAMILY will open on Broadway Thursday, April 8, 2010 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. Previews will begin Thursday, March 4, 2010 following a pre-Broadway engagement at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre in Chicago that begins November 13.

Philip Howard's sell-out Traverse Theatre Company production of David Greig's Damascus is to be presented at the Tricycle Theatre by Michael Edwards and Carole Winter for MJE Productions. Damascus will run from 3 February - 7 March 2009 with press night on Monday 9 February. Designs are by Anthony Macllwaine, lighting is by Chahine Yavroyan, the composer/arranger is Jon Beales and sound is by Graham Sutherland. The original Traverse Theatre Company cast - Nathalie Armin, Alex Elliott, Dolya Gavanski, Paul Higgins and Khalid Laith - will reprise their roles.
